If Alonso had not decided to update his facebook page after exiting the pits ahead of Hamilton on his final pit stop... allowing Hamilton an easy pass on the outside...

Would Hamilton have gotten by anyway? Did Alonso give away a win today?

While I am not an Alonso fan... he is clearly one of the best, if not the best active driver... that moment seemed very non-Alonso. I can't thick of a worse brain-fade from Alonso.

Thoughts?

Nothing is a strong word... To my eye Alonso made no defensive move. Seems he was caught napping...

 

Nah. (IMO) 2nd was more than that car should have delivered - He's good

But then you've gotta give kudos for LH's move...... ...... I don't much like the guy, but, dayum!

Could have stayed out later on the options, and gotten more of a buffer on Hamilton?

Now, Webber at the start....he was napping

 

Bit of both FA napping and Hamilton was up to speed on new tyres he knew where the grip was. Hamilton was on a charge, he went for it as as usual, and that's why he is a great driver IMO.

I take nothing away from FA he played fair a fine drive, he had just come out on fresh rubber.

The Ferrari is no good on the hard tires I am sure had something to do with it

 

Agreed Alonso is one of the best.
Perhaps second best.

 

Probably was caught napping but then again this is not Monaco: Hami was faster and would have passed him somewhere anyhow. 2nd was more than what the car is capable of.

 

From what I have been reading it depends on the surface. Some they are good on, others, not so much. There are not too many that chassis is GOOD on.

 

In many forms of racing #1 is not where you want to be on the last lap.
With DRS I honestly thought of seeing some climatic endings to many of this years races because of it.

 

That chassis and hard new rubber? FA was smart and those 2nd place points were far better than no points..... Smart move by a veteran driver that still has a bright future and long career ahead of him. Kudos to Lew-Ham as well for making the perfect move at the perfect time. Great race, and it is nice to see that Ferrari and Mac can bring the fight to the RB's. Even if Seb has it wrapped it we are in for some great race days for the balance of the season.

 

Is it the car that is no good on specific tires, or the driver?

Doesn't matter, McLaren and Ferrari got a hall pass today.

 

I think Alonso gave it all it had but didn't want to spin or crash out. The car was clearly moving around quite a bit in that corner so he was definitely giving it a shot. I thought I read as well that the Ferrari is pretty bad on cold tires?

 

I thought FA was sliding around in corner one and was a sitting duck. LH's tires were up to speed and he wasn't going to wait for Fernando's to do likewise. His McLaren seemed like it was running well today anyway.

Fernando did well, imo. From 4th to 2nd is always good in my eyes.

 

all he had to do was make Lewis run wide onto the wet astroturf, same what lewis did to Webber a few laps before that. Nothing to do with cold tires.

 

fred should have stayed out another 2 laps on the softs....

 

Of course he was asleep. Just like every other start this year???

 

What does Fred say about it?

Reading between the lines is he blaming a cold track?...we will be better in Hungary where the track is warmer and the tyres are softer.

But, I don´t know why suddenly Alonso became a gentleman!

Not that I´m complaining.

 

I thought the same thing when I saw the two incidents unfold.

So either FA is a more sporting chap than we previously knew or imagined and LH is a bully happy to run you off the road....or
FA is a push over unwilling to force his opponant to lift and LH is a racer who took a risk with MW and happily got away with it. I suspect ones perspective will change depending on who you cheer for....

I reckon Fred flattered the car - If he'd have tried the same LH move and fallen off he'd have been howled at from the peanut gallery.....

Love him or hate him, LH's move was very, very, impressive.

Why would Alonso risk crashing Ham out, or even defending against him when he just came out of the pits on new rubber.

Alonso played it smart, so did chance taker Hamilton.

As regards to Hamiltons driving style (going for it) it won him this race, however there is enough times this year it hasn't paid off. Hence his haters filling their boots.

The next race if the track is nice and hot, I can't see Ham getting the better of Alonso.

But who knows, the main thing is Redbully seemed to have been reeled in.
