Glad to see you went for it! keep us posted with your updates and pictures. I hope to see you and the car, at one or other of the events / meetings that go on.
Al, I see you were there today, and saw the F1 GTR AND the XJR-15 Looks like you were loaded up with cameras - let's see those shots then
Oh were you there Greg? i didnt see you, you should have said hello. Nice to meet you boxer365 and thanks for deciding to bring the Jag! Great to see one actually being used on the road instead of just sitting on the lawn at some show or other.
I'm particularly happy with the shot of the lights up as they are very rare, not more than a handful on the net, Boxer365 was kind enough to oblige when i asked if he could pop the lights, Thanks Boxer! Your car was the highlight of the meet for me! After driving an F40 for around 100 miles, i can only imagine how this would feel...Do you have fun on the road at all after a few miles? The F40 feels good at speed..but at slow speed it is not fun once the "wow im driving an F40" factor has set in.
fantastic post & vid boxer .....it's like a lean 220 to look at, but noisy!? damn! ...that gear box is so loud, how can you even hear the v12 LOL this is the only youtube of clarksons drive of the xjr-15 i could see [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY0nt85kzgU[/ame]
I was in Monoco...for the Grand prix in....1989 I think... There was an all jaguar XJR 220 race, like 15 cars.. The Site The Sound and the Fury, has left a mark, even 22 years later..Especially walking through the tunnel under Lowes hotel when they passed... OWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! I think they were $ 1,000,000 each back then
Great write up Boxer. I remember watching them race before the British GP back in 91 I think. Great cars.
I'm guessing this was the same XJR15 GP support series I saw at Silverstone in 91. The 220 wasn't out until 92 and I don't recall a race series with XJ220s.
It was my Honeymoon, so it was definitly 89.. I remember this was the first siteing/ showing of these cars at race...highly publicized ...I think they were all independent entries, and the winner got 1 Million as well.. Was the 15 the first of the series out??
Great read thanks for sharing. I love the XJR-15, beautiful car. I even spent (for me) obscene money for a 1/8 scale model of the car. Best looking Jaguar ever! Other than Jeremy Clarkson's review (which left me shaken), not much insight into the car except for an article done a few years ago by Classic Car magazine. What I wouldn't do for a ride in that car! Again, thanks for sharing and providing video of your outings, definitely gives a lot more insight into the car.
The XJR-15 and XJ220 are seriously my 2 favorite cars of all time. You're so lucky to own one, post more pictures!
Is your 1/8 XJR-15 model the one done by Javan Smith at Presentation Models( also sold by cstudio.net )? If so, that is not a good model of the car; the body shape is not anywhere nearly correct. I was the one who originally commissioned the first of those models from Smith and I have the first one. I later commissioned a small company in France( everfel ) that is now out of business, to make both a 1/8 and 1/12 scale models as one-offs based on the Provence Moulage 1/43 scale kit( which is the only accurate 1/43 scale model of the XJR-15; the Starter and Spark models are very inaccurate also ). The everfel models are styling models and have no interiors but the shapes are accurate. They used CAD/CAM and laser scanning to scale up from 1/43. Too bad everfel is gone. I found them in a classified ad in the back of Automobiles Classiques magazine back in 2000. They also did a one-off 1/8 Ferrari 365P prototype racer for me with full interior detail. I think only 1 or 2 examples of the actual 365P still exist. They have a body like the 330P but with side vents like the 250 GTOs.
Hi all-I was just offered a 15, it's #001, set up with the 6 speed non synchro box...I was wondering how hard (and sacriligious) it would be to covert to regular 5 speed, and also, how hard to make it street legal...any help would be great! Thanks Phil
check back a few posts, or do a search...seems like it is already covered. Though definitely would seem like a worthy addition!
Street legal you'd have to apply for the show and display status. I don't think there is any other way to make it street legal (and not even sure it would qualify smog wise with show and display).
please don't butcher the car. Learn to drive a dog box! When you do it right it is far better than a synchro box, albeit lots of gear whine, but surely you like the sounds it makes. If you don't want it, let me know, I've always thought the 15 the nicest of the more "modern" Jags and it has some racing provenance of sorts. Again, please don't butcher an original racing Jaguar.
Here's a rather poor quality digital photo of the 1/8 everfel XJR-15 sitting atop a Pocher F40: Image Unavailable, Please Login
No, it's a correct XJR-15 syling model. There is no long-tail version of the XJR-15. The actual car has a long front overhang, which is only correct on the Provence Moulage 1/43 kit and on the everfel 1/8 and 1/12 styling models( no interior ).
