Glass already broken? If so maybe just chip/break it away? Can you slice between plastic and back of mirror with a model-knife blade? I presume there aren't any obvious clips that retain the glass!

I can't see any clips and the glass isn't broken. I'd prefer to try and get it out in one piece!

OK, I glass not already broken no point in proceeding that way - seven year and all that...

Difficult to assist form the photo above but I'd say it's possibly bonded with some kind of adhesive. Warming it up might help but I think I'd be going at it with a knife blade and trying to cut between the mount and the mirror. This may result in scratches to the back of the mirror which will ruin it though.

If your talking about removing the black plastic back from the mirror, It ain't going to happen without breaking the mirror. If you plan on re-using it your going to be unhappy. Your replacement should have the plastic part already attached. If not, you got screwed.
Is this an factory part, or something someone cut locally for you?

Thanks Glassman. To clarify - this is a OEM replacement part. The picture above is of the replacement part with the plastic part attached.

My problem is that I can't figure out how to remove the existing glass from the mirror housing. Normally I'd expect to see a circlip or something when the mirror is moved to an extreme angle but I can't see anything obvious that releases it from the housing.

Don't know about CS mirror specifically, but on 355, 360, and 430 there's normally a spring wire retaining ring that goes around the plastic bit that catches the grove of the adjustment mechanism inside the mirror housing. If you tilt the glass to one side you should be able to see the wire ring.

If you try to forcibly remove the glass without first unseating the ring from the catch grove you'll break the adjustment mechanisms plastic gimbals.

That is my experiance too but in this case I cannot see the wire ring behind the mirror!

    This is my concern.

Thought I might find something useful in the 360 and F430 WSMs, but both say the mirrors cannot be disassembled, so not much help. CS mirrors are completely different, but I missed my chance to buy a CS WSM a while back.

I managed to do this at the weekend. The glass is simply clipped onto the motor frame. I angled the mirror downwards so I could access through the top. From there I used a small screw driver to pop the clips off the frame. The glass then needed to be rototed upwards so the bottom clips could be removed.

The replacement glass just clips into place.
