Only Mobil is a "true" synthetic (group 4) oil. All others call themselves synthetic oil because of a legal loophole.

Mobil 1 has had some really bad reviews in recent years, so buyer beware.

There was a guy on here a few years ago that had some pretty advanced degrees in chemistry and stuff. You old timers remember his name.......I forget off the top of my head, Darth and the old guys will remember. He did some very interesting posts on oil and test he performed. They were a little over my head, but interesting reads. You might want to search them up. Being older posts, I do not know if the same applies today with the reengineering of products, but a good read.

I too have heard some sketchy things about the new formula Mobil 1 is using, but cannot remember if it was told to me or read it.

I switched to Motul from Mobil 1 for the Porsche at the advice of some mechanics who specialize in the older 12 quart cars. Problem is that those old cars always are leaking from somewhere, even if you replace to return tubes as I have. Some guys swear the new stuff makes them leak even more. Brad Penn is a product some of the guys use.

I tend to let the guys who do it as a profession take the lead rather than try to make that decision. The days of trying to find a place to carry and then dump 12 quarts of oil by doing it myself passed long ago.

Thanks Barry, I forget as I get older, I remember Hass, but forgot the AE part, and I forgot the most important part, not only does he know his stuff, I recall he owns an Enzo. Reading though those post was like going back to college and you almost felt like you had to take notes from his conclusions. Very dedicated and much appreciated poster on the subject. Bottom line if I even dare state it in one sentence is: start up fluidity v running fluidity. Read his posts, they are fascinating and very in depth.http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136052
