So, in the limited space that we have for an electric antennae has anyone found one that opens enough to get any reception?

Attach a 20' length of co-ax to the rear spoiler and drag it along...you will get improved reception.

Don't forget to attach one end to the antenna jack.

LOL! Great idea, and I am sure you mean Digital Ready Coax.

I'm not understanding the limited space reference. I did replace my antenna with a standard $20 replacement, it works on the radio with performance as good or better than any other car. The new antenna position is controlled by the radio rather than the switch, closes flush to the car when radio is off and height is way up there when on AM or FM mode. Get's all stations that a housebound radio gets. Only precaution is when replacing an antenna, be certain to use the drain hose on cars which have electronics beneath them, like a lamda deck qv.

Anyone know how high the OEM antenna is? My antenna is only about 22" high when extended. I thought 31" was the min. for the FM carrier wavelength in the US.

Unlike older AM car radios, current automotive radio AM-FM rf input circuits are NOT tuned circuit requiring requiring a specific antenna wave length such as a transmitting antenna would. Broadcast FM is roughly in the 3 Meter band, call it 10 feet.

There are FM car radio input booster amplifiers for problem areas which you might look into. CC Crane might have something for you, they tout special radios.
