I didn't want to hijack that thread but wanted to ask some questions...

You ran nitrous on your 308? I thought about that a couple of years ago, even came up with a suitable kit but couldn't come up with a location for a standard 10 lb bottle. In the "trunk" it ends up sideways which means you can't really use the entire contents of the bottle. In the spare tire compartment it's either sideways again or the low (pickup) end of the bottle is angled forward so same problem. Where'd you put it?

I'd be very interested in your overall experience with nitrous on one of these cars...

I've played with a few itterations.

The first was way back in the 90's when I still had the Kjet setup. I put a fogger in the intake hose before the throttle body. It gave a bit of a kick but I was worried about uneven distribution in the runners and I didn't have my shop setup to work on cars like I do now so I took it off. As one guy warned me ... "you're going to make yourself some nice ashtrays if you're not careful" .... referring to my pistons.

The 2nd time when I burned a valve was after I installed my EFI. I put the nitrous nozzle in the intake stream before the throttle body and used the software in the Haltech ECU to richen everything up when I sprayed the nitrous. I captured some good pulls with that setup and it was before I rebuilt my motor. IIRC she pulled the same g's in second gear as it use to in 1st.

The valve that burned was the same one that I had paid thousands of dollars to have replaced years ago during my "darkside" days.

I am constantly contemplating whether or not to put the nitrous "plate" I designed and machined on my high compression motor. It has 8 individual nozzles pointing down each intake runner. The smallest I could drill them was around .02" ... you multiply that times 8 and its roughly a 150-200 hp bump. I have been having so much fun with my car that I haven't really had the need for the extra hp. The reason I developed my EFI was to one day build a motor with boost but the performance of my high compression motor even with the stock cams and single throttle body plenum setup has just been beyond my expectations.

If I were you would sell the 328 (if I could get decent $) and buy a 308 that needs help and a spare motor to go with it ... put all your knowledge into it that you've learned building motors over the years to create a total screamer. If I had a nice example I wouldn't want to modify it too much but the cheap cars beg for it :). Once you've got more grunt you'll want to do something with the suspension, and thats why you should start with a car that needs all of that. The suspension and shock mod's are easy and rewarding.

Aaaah it's Saturday ... turned my front discs yesterday and put new pads on but brakes are pulling .... going to rebuild the right front caliper ...I think its that since its the only part I've not had apart in 10+ years :).

cheers to all ... happy tinkering day!
