Fact is Enzo is about to turn 10 years older ...

no other SuperFerrari had lasted that long without being replaced ....

    GTO - 2 years
    F40 - 8 years
    F50 - 7 years
Enzo - almost 10 years and counting ....

I actually agree with what you say with one exception. I can see cars being limited in performance on city streets in the future by electronic means or regulation. Every time one of these does a high speed crash, we get one step closer to someone saying "enough". Every time a manufacturer introduces a car that does 200 mph, someone somewhere says "why does anyone need that?"

The day of screaming engines will seem one day like the romantic day of the horse and buggy. Burning hydrocarbons and putting Co2 in the air will be viewed like we think of horse dung littering city streets.

There may still be some super cars out there in the future. They just won't be like today's super cars. And, once again, people will look back at a nostalgic age of when we built these magnificent, fast, yet "wasteful" machines. I just believe that age happens to be today.

An excellent point. But, we had to get through the 4 cylinder Mustang 2 and 190 HP Corvette to get where we are today.

After de 8 litre 1000hp Bugatti Veyron, you can only go down.

It´s time for a change. If Ferrari ignores this, they probably will have to build another 308i.

....And it would be roundly criticized on Fchat as Ferrari "losing" it's way.

There is a Plug and Play KERS that is being developed by MM that IMO will be used by several Manufactures to make more environmentally friendly/fuel efficient Sports Cars starting in 2014.

We're talking to them about using one In P 4/5 Competitione if we go back to the Ring in 2012.

It's a pretty cool system that is fail safe in that it can be decoupled from the trans drive and could be used to increase MPG, push to pass, or fully electrically for some miles or in the pits as F1 cars will be required to do. It would charge from regenerative braking or being plugged in. We'd switch out batteries every pit stop with a fully recharged set. Porsche used a hybrid system in this years 24 at The Ring and it went an extra lap before refueling than other cars. If it hadn't suffered non hybrid system failure (gearbox) it could have won.

Note to Pininfarina and Ferrari's design team: Simplify, purify, clean up.

If your design looks like an insect, you're on the wrong path. If it looks like a shark, you're in right place.

Then I'm way ahead of the game :D

As slow as it is, I do get around 60MPG with it (I think that's what it works out to. I get 400km out of a tank of 20L of diesel) versus the 10MPG I get with the 308...

I'm amused at the futuristic look of all of those designs. Every one captures what apparently the students see when they see a Ferrari: futuristic design. But not one of those maquettes yields the slightest bit of passion. It's as if the students are seeing completely different cars than the rest of us. Maybe it's a cultural difference.

true, but at the same time there's a lot of Ferrari heritage and organic design (flowing curves, etc) in those cars.

you see a lot of P4, 250LM, etc in those designs.

besides, they look exotic. much better than a lot of the cars we're seeing from Ferrari lately (FF I'm looking at you....and wincing)
