    I am installing a powered subwoofer in the rear passenger area behind the drivers seat. Need constant hot source that is not fused. Can't find an easy way to run the #10 gauge wire thru the firewall into the passenger compartment from the battery, so I wondered about splicing into this red thick gauge wire located at the base of the relay panel.

    Does anyone know what it is? Starter? Thought I would peel back the insulation and solder the #10 wire to it. Is it a direct feed from the battery without being fused?

    I'm not understanding why you don't connect your wire to the battery at the post which is clean and easy and doesn't modify any existing wiring and a fuse can be added if/when necessary. If you connect (per your photo) to the large red wire at the fuse panel battery terminal by soldering you will accomplish your goal of obtaining unfused battery voltage, but mess up the integrity of the panel in the process. Every subsequent owner of your car will have unkind words for you.

    Firewall pass-through is quite easy as there is a large, horizontal, grommeted hole in the center of the cabin front firewall into the center console area which passes heater control cables etc. Remove the cover over the brakes etc to expose it.

    I am not seeing the grommet access thru the firewall. I obviously would like to use that.

    Could you be a little more specific as to it's location. Thanks.

    Never mind. I found it! The P.O. had an alarm system control box covering it.

    "if/when"? I'm asking not arguing here, but why wouldn't a fuse would be de rigeur in this situation?

    You definately need an in line fuse holder as close as possible to the hot tap off of the battery terminal.

    Dont cut into the Factory wiring harness, but that fat red wire is the feed to the distribution block of the fuses and relays...
