I've read here that the body pannels are lighter for the eurospec testarossa but is there a physical difference in the way it looks as well, specifically with the front bumper?

I'm asking because when I look at the MV one something seems off like the front bumper is sticking too far out from the body like here on this converted to american spec berlina boxer

vs the MV testarossa in its intro scene

and then when I look at a eurospec one the front end looks fine

or is that more the european licence plate evening up the lower half of the bumper and thus making it look more even?

I am fairly positive that the front bumper is the same, however, there was a fitted rubber coated steel insert on the rear bumper that holds the license plate for the American cars. There were also differences in the corner signal lights that were mounted (depending on the year) and there were small round signal lights mounted aft of the front wheels for Euro models.

That is about all I know about the differences about the physical appearance (and this is just for the original Testarossa, and not the 512TR or F512M)

I bought a basket case (US) 86 TR that came with a new grille and used US front bumper. the grille was new in the box and I never pulled it out until all the paint work was done. I found that the grille was too small for the US bumper. After checking part numbers I found it was a Canadian grill. Eurospares lists the Canadian Grill for about $1300 (US) MORE than the US version. Why I do not know because they are identical except the US grille has one more horizontal bar. Neither are available any more from Ferrari. Does anyone know how many Canadian Testarossa's were built? I would like to sell my Canadian grille and I wonder how many canidates there are?

maybe the grill is more inlaid then?

and if it is, it wouldnt be the first time the grill has made all the difference in the world as to how the car looks from the front for me like on the Audi Ur Quattro with the flat square grill from 1980 - 1983

Although I have to admit that I wish I could find a photo of a 1986 - 1987 testarossa that's all stock save for the front bumper of a koenig one

complete with the stock pop up headlights and grill, as other than the stock bumper I love the way the testarossa looks, more so than the 512tr or the 512M

No that is a US grille that has top bottom and 3 bars in the middle. Canadian grille has 2 bars in the middle and top and bottom. That would make the opening not as high.

Due to a little incident, I replaced my front bumper about 10 years ago with another, and I have replaced my spoiler several times due to scrapes, and the shop that worked on my car said that although they had worked on many, and the part numbers were always the same that none of the bumpers and/or grilles and/or spoilers ever were identically the same and even the mounting points varied between them slightly.

From what I am told (this is hearsay), Ferrari changed their suppliers and molds several times for a bunch of items on the TR, and with each change came a slightly different part, and Ferrari just used what they had available at the time and made it all work, because the TR was still mostly hand made.

That may be true to a degree but the Canadian bumper and grill have different part numbers from the US parts. One look in the parts book and you can see that the Canadian bumper opening is not as high for a Canadian grille. You could cut a US grille down to fit it in a pinch. The Canadian bumper has beefier brackets and lower mounts as well. I still have this Canadian grille for sale if one has a Canadian bumper.

You might touch base with our member Rocko or the other members in Canada, to put the word out.

I would think an owner that might need one in the future would be glad to have it hanging on the shop wall.

I do that with 308GTB hoods, it brings good luck and then you never need 'em!!!

Hmm I guess its more the euro licence plate mixed in with the latter lights of your model that I like phil and I have to admit your latter model testarossa looks good with the earlier magnesium rims and the dual mirrors, FYI I normally prefer a single mirror MV car

and this ones also a great looking example too (same deal as yours) and god I love the color of this thing
