Yesterdau i took my 355 Spider (1996, 2.7 Motronic, 30k miles, major done, Tubi headers, tubi cat replacement pipes and Capristo exhaust) for a ride.
After about 5 miles, the engine suddenly shut down and failed to start.
I checked all the fuses, they were ok. I disconnected the battery hoping that it would reset, but it still fails to start.
The battery is ok, the starter motor turns over but the engine just fails to start.
Yesterday when I tried it, the engine turned faintly for about 1 second and then died.
Today after having disconnected the battery, it doesn't run at all.
The funny thing is that the low petrol warning lightes up even thoug there is still 1/4 left in the tank.
At first I thought it was related to the alarm (because the central locking is going mad for the moment).
the car recently underwent a call back for the fuel pipes.

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome!

    Many thanks,

    David

I'd try putting some fuel in, just to be sure. It's the easiest thing to try. Maybe your gauge is stuck.

That was my latest idea as well. I'll give it a try tomorrow but I'm afraid it must be something else ...

Apparantly it was a problem with the fuse box that didn't transfer the current to the fuel pump.
According to my mechanic, the alarm (not an oem one) was poorly installed and this could have caused the problem. He is now checking the complete fuse box as the slow down lights remain illuminated (something they didn't do before). It's possible I'll have to buy a new fuse box.
