I bought 08318 (used but with less than 2500 miles) factory flares and chairs in 1975 for way less than $19K, and i dont recall new ones for that kind of money.. Daytonas (spyders) were bringing 30K in mid 1975.

We're trying to save you from yourself.

Look, I'm all for commercial posts. I love 'em. But, if you want to sell something, then just say it. IF on the other hand, you're trying to share information with the gang, then why bother with all the cloak and dagger ****?

This ain't a long time member doing us all a kindness here. It's a new guy hawking his wares, or helping a client. ALl of his posts pertain to these three cars, all tie back to the Mecum references.

you don't see these cars in FerrariAds do ya? They're on Mecum, gonna sell for a boatload of money, and what better place to grab some free advertising than here?

And these cars don't smell right. And I don't think it's just the dust. Could be our collective imagination getting the better of us, but lots of the info just doesn't quite add up, and the OP could clear all that up, if he wanted, but he doesn't seem to WANT to.

That's not gonna win friends and influence people, at least not here.

Lets also not forget that this guy who ever in the hell he is and I really don't care who in the hell he is, got ahold of these cars, was ass wipped by Ferrari Chat experts because the cars will need complete rebuilds Bla Bla freeking Bla. The're not worth anywhere near the money asked and more Bla Bla Bla. The guy was then invited by F-chat members to post in the Dino section with pictures etc. Now you goof balls are all pissed off cause the guy got the cars, cleaned them up, and is going to sell them for a ton of money!!!!! Oh no, and he posted on F-Chat kinda like Tom S does every now and then and gets world wide recognition. Give me a feeking break. Save your self!!!!

sorry for the delayed response, Glassman; per Dave's post 43, it appears that Mecum, Autohaus, or someone has replaced some of the items I mentioned in my post 37. A full motor re-build probably wouldn't be warranted; leaky gaskets wouldn't be the end of the world, and anyone can put up w/ a leaky rear main for a while; the Mecum site says that the water pump "required servicing" whatever that means - but unlikely that timing chain cover gaskets were replaced? that would be just another PITA leak, but this car seems to miraculously been in a hypobaric time capsule, since "the cadmium- and zinc-plated components show none of the deterioration that normally happens over time, and the nylon ties used to secure undercarriage lines and hoses, normally yellowed and dried out over the years, are still fresh and white, looking like they were just installed." miraculous.

The description provides that almost the entire fuel delivery side of the equation has been flushed/cleaned/replaced. Nary a word about brakes; there was no DOT5 when this car was allegedly stored (but see Dave's post 45 as to when that might have actually occurred), so was the master cyl pulled to check for massive pitting after 30 years of storage w/ old, hygroscopic brake fluid? wheel cylinders? You going to trust your life to pre-auction hype?

I'm not trying to save anyone from anything. I think there are some really important questions about these cars that have not been answered. Go back and read my first post.

If the OP wants to "fill us in" on these wonderful time capsules, I think there's no problem in asking some rather reasonable questions -- and getting real answers if the OP is being straight with us.

Maybe it's a language issue and maybe it's a PR stunt. I wish I knew for sure because this thread could have been one for the ages and instead we are left wondering if it's possible we are being duped.

I do not believe if you leave these cars alone for 30 years untouched that you can simply hose them off, put some gas in them, put in a new battery and drive them off. Call me skeptical but if the OP is going to post information on these cars and mention they are for sale in an auction several times, he deserves to tell us the real condition and history.

As I said, I did my own personal "barnfind" on a Dino with only 10 years of neglect and found the situation completely opposite. So, I'm speaking from some personal experience here. Aluminum oxidizes and changes color. Rubber deteriorates. Fluids evaporate. Gasoline turns to jelly. Plastic wiring crumbles. Leather shrinks. Paper yellows. Sorry for wanting to know why it hasn't happened on these cars but I think it's not unreasonable to ask.

I was the fellow who invited the then owner to post pictures at this site and I almost regret that. I thought it would be interesting and useful for us to have reference photos, assuming the Dino is what it is said to be - a time-capsule car. I wish, as someone noted, that it had been presented in a different way in this thread.

If the car is truly original and untouched, I hope Mecum does not do too much work on it, or even replace the tires, etc., and that whoever buys or bought it, before he "improves" the car, will take many pictures of details - clamps, fuel hoses, finishes - and post them here. We can never tell what we need to look at in the future.

My car is I think very original, as I bought it only five years ago with 10,000 miles on the clock. I don't believe it has ever been taken apart, but it still will be good and interesting for me to compare it against a less-used car.

Alright, I am going to take an objective approach to this....

We asked for more pictures and info and then asked for a VIN #

We have all been skeptical of the eBay sales that started this barn find thread stuff months back

Now we have someone providing info, pictures and a better point of reference.

I went from being a non-believer inthis car to now thinking this is a car I would love to own, regardless of the issues that need to be addressed

Here, we have the car WE have all longed after. All the dumb threads we have created as to what is and what isn't correct, and yet, here is as close to the real deal in terms of authenticity I have seen come on the market in a VERY long time and we throw the guy under the bus because he might be - (visciral ractions ALL at this point) be marketing it....

OMG!!!! A guy wanting to market what he has. AND HE USES ALL CAPS!!!! WHAT A MISJUSTICE!!!

He may not make the most sense as our more eloquent members, but I remember all to well when a member posted he purchased a GTO and everyone threw him under the bus too. Turns out it was real and he quit posting. Not every "abnormal" poster if a fake/fraud/salesguy/etc, but if they are providing us INVALUABLE information, we DO NOT have to throw them under the bus.

We are asking someone who is in possesion or has access to a car that is extremely low miles and very close to original to ATTEST to facts he has no way of knowing before his time.

A custodian is just that, care taker of an item. he can help us as much as we can help him. We are not advisaries. He has offered of pic (please post better ones) in exchange for his pitch, but regardless, we are all getting great info in the exchange.

I don't have a problem with the cars.

I think there's a little misleading info about them, and I'm skeptical about the "barn find" nature of them, but I'd love to have any or all of them.

    That was not my objection.

My objection was to the cryptic nature of the posts, and their disingenuous nature. Nothing more or less.

And I know the guy with the GTO, I doubt he'd have lasted long here if we'd treated him like a king, his reclusive nature would never have survived here.

Ok, another dead horse flailed to pulp.

I know....let's do something more fun.

Let's declare what we thing the car will sell for, buyers' premium included, Price Is Right Rules.*

    I'll go first:

    $265,000 US.

    *closest without going over.

    Glass.

I don't think that happened here. Re-read the posts.

There was healthy skepticism about the nature and condition of the cars.

I hope they do sell for a ton of money, maybe they should set records.

It's really just a matter of coming here and being honest about what you're trying to accomplish, and I don't think the OP did that.

Why? You don't believe me? It's VIN 00908. It's been traced to me. I bought it in 1981. I didn't take any photos because frankly, in 1981 Dino's were just another 10 year old used car.

But, this has nothing to do with what you're posting. I'm not selling any car. Mine already has a new owner.

All we want to know is:

Where did these cars come from and what is their history?
    How were they stored?
What is their current driveable condition?
What was done to them in the years they were stored?

    AND MOST IMPORTANTLY:

What has been done to them since they left the barn?

There are probably some people here who might want to buy it. But, just saying it's going to be for sale and showing some pretty pictures won't cut it.

When you're talking about this much money, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask these questions. In fact, I think it's unreasonable and suspicious for the seller to be hesitant.

I'm not saying this is a fraud. I am saying that there are some legitimate questions about how the cars came to this condition and it's not unreasonable for us to ask.
