Will Ferrari ever have an entry-level model again?

    I think the point is that as of now, this technology is very expensive relative to someone of average (average for a Ferrari owner anyway, if there is such a thing) means. But as time progresses it will become cheaper and cheaper, as do most things, including the automobile itself.

    Just wait until someone invents a replicator like on Star Trek where you just order what you want and it appears. Im going to make a pontoon fender TR first and a P4 second and a P4/5 third. ;)

    In what years was a new 3x8 series equivalent in price to a 200k car in 2011 dollars ?

    Weren't the 308s a mid 30 thousand dollar car in the 70s ? Which is about 120 thousand today. And the 328s ended up MSRPing for around what, 75-80 thousand in the late 1980s ?That is like 130-140 thousand today according to online inflation calcs.

    I think new model Ferraris have undoubtedly become relatively more expensive and less attainable to the average person. A 130-140 thousand dollar new car quickly depreciates into a below 100k used car. But when they start at 250k, it's going to be unattainable to most for a much longer amount of time. I mean 100k+ is already a tremendous amount to spend on a car for most, 250k+ is dreamland for 99.5% of us.

    I totally get that it's probably in Ferrari's best interest to price that way. There is a greater variety of expensive vehicles to choose from today than 20 or 30 years ago. And as part of their reputation, they have to be among the most expensive. I know with a company like GM, there isn't a big difference in cost to build a corvette or a cobalt.

    I imagine Ferrari would make less revenue by selling a limited production cheaper model. It would cost something like 90% as much to manufacture a "entry level" Ferrari as the 458, but if it only sold for say 1/2 as much, the only away to avoid losing money would be through sales volume, and that's anathema to the Ferrari mystique. So yeah, things aren't going back to the way it used to be, when new Ferrari v-8s were only 2-3x the cost of a new corvette.

    Reported prices for 348 tb/ts ranged from $103K to $119K during the period of 1989-1992. Note that reported "sticker" prices are particularly confused in that period due to a 10% luxury tax that was enacted in 1990 and then declined and phased out over several years.

    The inflation factor from 1990 to now is about 1.68; that is a range of $173-200K.

    Ferrari never have a entry level model. There value there performance can't have any go to introduce a entry level car. There niche is unique. Ferrari is the only car of its class don't have entry level model, this made them stand apart from the crowd.
