    have been on here about a month looking and talking about a 456,360 or a 550 in 6 speed. My wife's cousin calls me today , has a 97 355 GTS with 21K and tells me how rare they are; car has been sorted by FOA(atlanta) needs a belt servie which will be done...asking $82,800...says this will include the service...what are your thoughts, I know nothing about 355's other than they need "engine out" service Vs 360 and 550, I love the lines and I know you 355 guys and gals love yours; I have been told here on the site if I want more reliability and a littlle less maint. cost the 360 or 550 is the way too go...is it that rare of a car? he thinks he has the ONLYone(GTS) in the USA that has such low miles and in such great shape, PS in black, tan interior! PS he is not offering me any great deal, family or not,lol

    I'd say it's about 10k high for a GTS with fresh service. Regardless, your wife's cousin is correct about the rarity. The opportunity to purchase a 355 GTS doesn't come around too often. I'd look into it more.

    He is asking about $15-20k too much. And now that 360s are getting older, they have their problems as well. 550s are A completely different animal, so if you'd prefer one of those, the 355/360 are not even comparable; the 550 is a touring car: quiet, faster and doesn't handle as well in tight corners.

    My suggestion is to keep looking until you find exactly what you want at the right price.

    AND DO GET A PPI FROM A FERRARI DEALER OR EQUIVALENT BEFORE YOU BUY A CAR!!!

    I'm a 348 guy, so I don't have the best info. But from what I've learned on this forum, 82K is ridiculously high. And I believe it's the GTB's that are rare, and that GTS's and spiders are easy to find. I believe it's the last year 348 GTS's and GTB's that are rare and hard to find.

    I'm sure 355 owners will chime in soon enough. Hold off.............

    I may be wrong about the 355 GTS.....

    355...............

    355 GTB= 4915
    355 GTS= 2577
    355 Spider= 3714

    Although at 2500+ cars I'm guessing that's not rare......

    348.................

    348tb = 2,895
    348ts = 4,230
    348spider = 1090
    348GTB = 252
    348GTS = 137
    348GTC = 50

    Not too many 348 GT's.....

    If mileage is an indicator of rarity, then he is probably correct. However, IMHO that is not a rare car. I believe they made 529 GTS F1's out of the total posted above. When I was searching for mine though (2 years ago), the dealer prices were in that ball park for '99 cars. Seems high for a '97. From my experience the dealers don't like to negotiate much...

    The price premium may be worth it for peace of mind since the car will be sorted and having the belts done takes that off the table. Doesn't guarantee anything but it helps. I did find a couple cars during my search that were owned by people who could not afford/keep up with the maintenance....the cars were cheap by Ferrari standards and not bad cars, but you needed to realize there was going to be a big maintenance bill soon. Hope that helps. I'm incredibly pleased with my 355...even though I wanted a six speed I had trouble finding one that I was comfortable buying. Seems to me you are still trying to figure out which one you want. The 355 will not disappoint...if that's the one you want.

    The interesting data is how many of these cars are still driveable.....there are probably 600+ 355 spiders that are gone forever(junkyard)

    Absolutely correct! Way overpriced, the GTS has a lower production number than the other versions, but I wouldn't call it "rare". They can be had regularly in the $50-$60K range.
    The low mileage is probably NOT a positive in this case either, that basically means you can look forward to years of empty pockets getting all the notorious issues sorted.

    I suggest you pass on this and go with the model you're passionate about, your 1st instinct is typically the correct one.

    Yeh, I wish there was a way to find that out. Out of 1090 348 spiders, I wonder how many are left. Are all the Speciales on the road?
