I don't drive all that much at night, and when I do its normally in well lit areas, however tonight I took a highway near my house which doesn't have any lights an it turns out my headlights are complete dog s**t, they don't shoot very far and the right shoots farther then the left. The high beams were fine. Anyway, has anyone upgraded their headlight successfully to perhaps some HIDs, xenons, etc? Or maybe just better bulbs without melting anything? I'm really not looking for the ricer look with bright blue or blinding white lights but just want better visibility at night on the dark highways around here.

I upgraded to HID's. Better, but still not great.

I would suggest having your headlights properly aligned first, then I would fit some HID's to REALLY brighten them up. :D:D

    Thanks guys,

HID it is :) Any kits out there that you recommend? Proven to work without issues.

You will need a kit with a small ballast otherwise it will not fit in the back of the headlight pod.

The ballasts do not mount inside the headlight pod. They mount remotely behind the wheelwell liners, then you just run the wires to the headlights. Very simple. I used standard sized ballasts, not the slim ballasts.

The right headlight should shoot farther than the left, that is intentional (at least in North America). But you can always raise the height of the left, but be careful not to blind opposing drivers.

The best oem looking upgrade you can do is HIR bulbs. There is a very complete thread discussion on them, and where to get them (only a couple sources), try a thread search using "HIR" on the upper left corner of this page. They are stock wattage, so no risk of damaging anything, yet they have a good 30% further throw than the stock bulbs...perhaps a bit more. I was impressed. Before, it was difficult to even adjust my lights as they were so dim, it was difficult to see the cut off, with the HIR bulbs the cut off is now very distinct.

I checked, here is the thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171084&highlight=HIR

Actually I upgraded to something. Not HID. HIR maybe? Can't remember. No ballast needed.

LOL. You beat me to it. I just was about to post the information of the HIR bulb upgrade. I did both my low/high beams with some Toshiba bulbs I purchased on eBay. I am very satisfied with the results. Not quite as bright as HID, but far cheaper and easier to install.
