I have a quick question about the side mirrors (3.2) - wondering if I'm crazy or this is typical. The side mirrors offer a very strange view...you know that 'object may appear...' that appears on new cars...I think I know why they now have it.

My side mirrors give me false impressions on where the cars behind me really are. I notice that I'm constantly turning my head to double check as there is such a vast difference between what I see and what it is in reality.

Is this the case for everyone?

That being said, my mirrors have small rust or pit stains on them - I'm thinking about going to a mirror shop and having new ones cut to the same specs. Has anyone done this before?

I have no experience outside of my Ferrari's on '80s cars - this may be very typical, I'm not sure.

    Thanks,
    Erik

Mine [T] offer no distortions on either side and I like that: Straight mirrors.

I find this odd yours has the magnified view [if I understand correctly] and the newer [T] not.

    Guess it were phased out.

Mine seems right as well, other than i have to wiggle my switch to make them move but the mirror part is usable.

I don't think they are magnified - it's a distorted view. I tried to figure it out today, but no luck.

Since I switched my rear view mirror (Val 1) I notice the difference right away and my rear view is 100% more accurate.

I took the Mondial out today and checked the mirrors. They are not distorted, FWIW.

The mirrors on our 88 3.2 are spotted, very cloudy. They look like water spots but are etched into the glass. I have not found anything to remove the appearance yet.

I've noted something similar to what you are talking about. The view appears in some way inconsistent but I can't put my finger on it and am always looking over my shoulder. It may just be the adjustment set so I can see the vents on the side of the car in the side view mirrors :D

I drove a new chevy tonight and was looking back through the mirrors while sitting in a parking lot. I realized that the mirror seemed normal to me, but it is one of those "objects closer" mirrors. I wonder if I have not taken the new mirrors as the new normal and the Ferrari having a flat mirror simply isn't giving me the width making it seem abnormal.

I had noted driving the Ferrari that I see people I'm passing in the center rear view long before I see them in the passenger side mirror and that was throwing me off. Might just be this is the only flat mirror I've looked through in years?

That was my initial thought as well - it's my only experience with cars this old.

Just an observation - but the mirrors on my 87 coupe look just like the mirrors on an 80's BMW 635 CSI - the primary housing only and the glass - they clearly changed the mounting base and added the rubber trim guard. I know for a fact that the mirror switch is BMW. Take a look on ebay and you will see what I am talking about.

OMG. I spent a small fortune on my mirror switch, you're 100% correct, it looks like the one from the BMW.

The door handle as well. My brother an ex BMW tech looked at my door handles and told me how they come apart. He was 100% correct.

Just like the Hazard switch on a Ferrari 328 - Ferrari parts houses want $400 for those things and they are just Fiat 124 Spider 79 up hazard switches. It is pure economics - low production means some parts bin manufacturing.

What about the Kia Sephia Rear calipers and pads on my Mondial 3.2 - I posted this in the cross ref section on the 308/328 board and no one noticed. When I bought my mondial I forgot to order pads when I ordered everything for my major service. I started looking at the single piston calipers and thought they looked framiliar. A quick look on the internet and sure enough my hunch was right. I called autozone and ordered some Front brake pads for a 99 Kia sephia - the same thing 100% match.

I own a dealership and see just about everything ever made along with my relationships with the local parts houses allow me a lot of opportunity to find things like this.

My Lamborghini Urraco with the VW Bettle master cyl really through the lambo crowd for a loop.

Confirmed! Ordered a set of BMW E24 replacement mirrors that I bought off Ebay for cheap. They are a perfect fit for my 3.2. Thanks!
