high speed stability is not solely based on the down force or low pressure generated by the wing. you can add downforce car and it may be even more unstable.

The key is to move the aerodynamic “center of pressure” to have the car "yaw" into the crosswinds. i never driven a countach so i cant speak from experience but by the looks of the large surface area and vertical struts plus end plates, everything says it should help a lot for high speed stability.

with such a aggressive slopping nose/ windshield profile one would guess a rear wing is needed on a CT. certainly this would kill the top speed somewhat but it would whole hardly be beneficial.

    another 2 bits worth

Some Countachs are retrofitted with rear springs that are too tall. This causes instability @ high speed.

In my experience, all the wings help with stability a high speed, but reduce top speed. The proviso is simply the the suspension has to be at optimum setting.

Yes, this is what Valentino Balboni told us. He also told that they abandoned the big wing of the "S" for a smaller wing (QV and 25th) just to avoid those instability problems and increase top speed.

With the big wing on, i just hit 200 km/h, 125 mph: car goes perfectly straight at this speed.

Car does not go straight just with bad suspension joints: those ****ty balljoints do not last long so they could be the problem. Bu when they are new the car is fantastic.

I have owned an '87 QV over 10 years now with 60km of seat time. I removed the ridiculous POS mounted on the trunk lid after a year or so of ownership (it also came equipped with the mythical front wing). I did notice some float @speed, 130mph+. This was due to the rear shocks. They were original and completely shot. With modern shocks (Aldan) on all corners the car is rock solid at any speed, drives on rails, just as intended.

FWIW, I had the opportunity to bend Valentino's ear a few years ago, so I asked for a brain dump on the rear wing. He said the wing is cosmetic.

I know him. I understood that he was the driver, didn't know he also moderates. But now you said it, sounds like him.

Of course that's explaining it quite better. Driving. No talking.
He wouldn't have been the one for the TV-moderator-after-racing-career...

He's still one of my favourite drivers.

If anyone is looking for a very special Lamborghini, contact me regarding this car ASAP. Sexy, stunning, unique and unfettered by DOT applications.

This 1988 1/2 Countach QV # 12292 was built to one-off special order for the ex-Denver Broncos team owner and US Steel magnate heir Edgar Kaiser. Finished in "Blu Tahiti (#215854) with "Blu con giletti Bianchi" the car was fitted with gearbox # 1316 and factory tuned engine number 1503. Completed early on December the 17th 1987, 12292 was collected at the Sant Agata factory by Edgar Kaiser himself, using Italian Touring (Escursionisti Esteri) plates EE.556.AK to drive the car out of the factory gates! After touring Europe at high speed, the car was flown back to Canada on a private aircraft and kept in Kaiser's car collection for the next decade. Kaiser's business colleague bought the car and in 2008 contacted Joe Sackey Classics about finding it a new home. The car comes with books, tools and remains in 100% original one-off livery as it left the factory. 21,429 km (13,315 miles) from new..

The thing about "12292" is that it is so much more stunning in person that pictures can ever convey.

Just looking at the Periscope car that is going to auction and wondered what was inside the big tunnel between driver and passenger. Seems like if it wasn't needed they could have made the seats wider. Just curious.
