    So what is the real reason for the resonator box? Did Ferrari have a brain fart and just stuck that little box on their for no apparent reason?

    Do you really think its' only function is to baffle the intake noise?

    Thank you for the thread......back when all of that was going on I didn't pay much attention and for the most part was not concerned.

    BUT NOW, I am starting to think about engine harmonics and resonance. Sound waves are really the bomb......very very interesting at how these sound waves can be tuned not just on the exhaust side but intake also and there in is the secrets of super tuning.

    I am not thru with this observation and as soon as me and Buckwheat get the dyno up and running these are the kind of things were are going to take a close look at.

    That little box just may play a part in controlling intake harmonics in the 5.2 where both intake plenums have a common air flow path as opposed to the 2.7 that has 2 independent intake systems.

    As I said,"this is just an observation" at this point and hopefully in the near future this will be proven as fact or fiction.

    An interesting topic to be sure. That box is there for a reason according to Ferrari.

    Sound waves in tuning is way past my pay grade.

    But fun to follow along here and learn some opinions & options... :)

    I too have been interested in the "delete" plug, as it does clean up engine appearance. However, I'm also hesitant to install it for the possible concerns posted above. I'm certainly no Ferrari mechanic, but having worked for years in chemical process equipment design and engineering - much of it controlling airflow - I had similar questions when the original threads started to appear. My simplistic take, as has already been suggested, is that I think of the resonator box as more of an accumulator/dampener that is designed to smooth irregularities in air flow to the engine. I worry that its removal might cause a problem with emisson levels and that passing smog here in California might become more difficult. If anyone can shed additional light on this or has firsthand experience with our dreaded smog testing it would be great, as I'd love to make the swap for the aesthetic reasons already discussed. Thanks!

    The little box is a 'muffler', to mellow intake noise. It is actually tuned to a fairly narrow frequency band, I measured the freq a while back but did not doc my findings. Once the resonator is removed, one can hear the intake a tad more and its purpose becomes more obvious.

    Here is some brief info;

    .... oh and no change to emission levels ;)

    Thanks for the SAE reference. I'll definitely give it a read.
