Is 40k miles too high on a 355?

It seems that anything over 30k miles is "high" on a Ferrari no matter the year model. I agree, it makes zero sense. You have to look at average miles per year and even that isn't too important if the car is in proper condition. I for one don't even put much stock in service history (it IS nice to know if guides have been done though), who cares if it went 10+ years without a belt change in the past? If it's running great and shows good compression and leakdown results perform the major now and move on.

As the 355 keeps getting older, there's more and more 'high' mileage cars. Another interesting thing happens too, the average mileage accelerates as they get older. Initially owners rarely drive their high price brand new Ferrari. Over time they depreciate and end up in the hands of guys who want to DRIVE them. So as they get older, they pick up miles at a faster rate.

I bought in the high 30's, now well into the 40's and it's in better condition and runs better than many low mileage cars. Bottom line, don't sweat the mileage!

 

Thanks for all the replies! See my problem is I'm going to drive the crap out of it then sell it. I keep saying with certain cars that I will keep them forever, but the reality is I won't and even a 355 I will probably sell in less than 2 years So to reduce the beating later on it would be best if I started with the least amount of miles possible, while still having everything sorted out. Yeah it's a tough order I realize.
