My daily watch is a Tudor/Rolex Chrono. (Times to 1/10 second, not 1/8 second like a Daytona). I have been seriously looking at Ball, Kobold and Mido All Dial. I like that watch you posted, especially since it is now dark when I get up.

I agree with you about the blue on the new sub. I have the pepsi GMT and I bought that because i loved the shade of blue on the bezel.

Thanks for the great post. Right now I wear my Breitling almost all the time. I bought this watch new and have put every scratch on it (I never want to have this watch polished only movement servicing). I'm at the stage now where I don't really worry about wearing it or what I am doing. I don't even realize I am wearing it most of the time.

My Bvlgari Diagono I bought back in January and had it serviced and polished, the watch looks as good as the day it was made 10 years ago. I try and wear it for a week per month at a time, but I am always taking it off or avoiding certain activities with the watch because the gold scratches easily. For some reason I want to keep this one looking as good as I can...

The NOA 1675 is a cool design, that I always thought I would wear with jeans and a t-shirt etc. But, most of the time I have to force myself to wear the watch. I do like its design, but it just appears as a trendy design to me as opposed to the other two watches which have aged well IMO.

After much deliberation and thought I think I am going to go with a two-tone Daytona, yes I know they just added a ceramic bezel to the Daytona (out of my price range). The watch is different from what I currently have and I think I can wear it for a lot of activities. Not sure I really want to own two-tone watches as I mentioned before, but maybe I'll sell the Bvlgari eventually.

Good news is I still have some time (classes for this semester only started last night!). :)

White Gold Daytona (I'd settle for SS or RG) on a leather strap is one of my Grails.

    Good luck!

Some (not most) JLCs and Zenith watches use true in house movements. I understand the appeal of something being truly bespoke to a brand but the fact is that a modified ETA can easily be just as good or better than a bespoke movement.

A Rolex is a good watch. They don't usually keep great time but they are tough, hard wearing, and easy to service. The professional models always seem to go up in value, not that you would want to sell your watch.

I collect watches and in my opinion a Rolex is the best starting place for any Swiss watch collection.

Good choice, and I think you should keep both two-tone watches, as they are both dressy and casual at the same time. I like the Daytona because of its functionality as well as good looks (and the GMT Master for the same reason; I travel a lot and often communicate with Asia and Europe, so the multi-time zone function is very useful to me).

And after all these posts, I forgot the most important thing: congratulations on your graduation! (No, the watch shown below is not mine, but enjoy!)

That's funny. Never thought of myself as lacking taste or class, and at our Cars & Coffee gathering yesterday, 3 of my friends were wearing their Rolex's too. It's just a good quality watch to us, not a status symbol. If all 4 of us showed up next week wearing Seikos, we'd still be the same people, no better or worse.

No kidding... the only thing that strikes me as classless or tasteless is making such generalized statements about owners of specific types of watches. As for Rolex as a brand; I've got several high end watches (Patek, AP, L&S, Panerai), yet I find myself wearing my Rolex sub most often because it looks good with a suit or shorts, plus I can beat the crap out of it and it never misses a beat.

Congrats on your MBA! Have you thought about selling your current collection and adding it to your watch funds? I'm guessing once you get the Rolex, you'd rarely wear your other watches. Having said that, I really like the solid gold GMT Master II. It's a very classy watch IMO, and it looks great with a suit, or wearing shorts on a weekend BBQ!

+1, although for best combination of dressy and sporty, I like the gold/stainless version more.

Rolex is a traditional watch. Some peeps find it so blah... because there are lots of them around.

But, they are very well made, easy to service. One of my Presidential had a problem in that the winding piece was not able to move the hands. It was off warranty. They fixed it for free! Try that with other watches.

I've got a nice Jaeger that Torneau in NYC could not fix. They said it has to be sent to Europe to get fixed. Talking about
service issues. Long story short, will take it there personally. Might as well tour the place.

Lots to consider in a watch other than looks.
Exclusivity may really be just that....in more ways than one....LOL.

Buy what you LOVE not like, Rolex is a wonderful, built like a brick shi+ house watch and sure as hell is not a fad watch.

BTW anyone have a 60mm Diamond in crusted Invicta and or Curtis & Company watch for sale?

As an aside, Tourneau could be the worst place in the world to buy a watch. From price to service to the watch itself (many in their inventory have serious cosmetic issues), Tourneau is bad news.
