    Hi Guys

How do I check the bypass valve condition - whether it is in good working condition? whether it is wired/moded to stay open? I am getting P1448 as a code, and while I know what the bypass valve is, I am not sure how to evaluate its condition...

    Thanks

It is located betwee the muffler and the Y-pipe. There I a diaphragm just above the valve and there is a vacuum hose attached to it. Remove this hose and apply vacuum, if the mechanism moves it is most likely functioning (mechanically). You should be able to depress the mechanism working against the spring pressure. You should encounter resistance but it should move freely without binding/dragging.

If this isn't clear I can go into more detail.

I'm getting the same code again, I found out my y-pipe is leaking, I'm in the process of installing another one. remove the air boxes, remove the exhaust heat shield re install the MAF start the car and see if you have any exhaust leaks from the y-pipe

Could you please give me a little more detail on how to :

    1) apply vacuum externally?
    2) where to look for movement in the mechanism

Eitan, thanks for the suggestion - I will look for a leak: easiest to just see/hear/smell?

Use a brake bleeder vacuum pump. Small hand-held ones are cheap. Good thing to have anyway.

You will see the external vertical piston of the valve move. Very obvious.

Do you hear the exhaust note change around 4K rpm's? If so, It's working.
