Iran is currently building a massive new sports complex for racing. The goal is to build a road course in the spirit of Spa. The track will be ready by 2013 and it is possible that they will seek a GP, which ironically by then might be the replacement of the real Spa.

I sure hope not. Spa is my favorite track overall now (just ahead of Monaco and Monza). Plus look at all the issues with Bahrain. IMO this part of the world can not safely support this now....

I am sure that if they grease Bernie's palm with enough cash they are within a chance...

Very different than in the US. We're basically the only ones not participating, Europeans are all in when it comes to business. Tourism included.

Politically (F1 Politics, meaning Bernie, teams, sponsors etc),... is an Iranian GP a realistic possibility with the current Iranian regime in power?

Regrettably, that girl was from afganistan and she does not look that way today having had her nose cut off by her husband.

Not a chance. I'll eat a crow if it happens under the current regime.

How can there possibly be a Grand Prix in Iran if we
    haven't "exported democracy" there yet?

Time to dial up the crazy.

I stand corrected. I remember the NG article about finding this girl in 2002 after 17 years. In that article, or a similar on on the country of Afganistan, there was a photo of a girl that had been butched by her husband through the removal of her nose. I mistakely recalled that photo as one of this girl.

The "she doesn't look that way today" is still correct. :)

I wouldn´t be too much surprised: Chinese GP, South African GP with Apartheid, Spanish GP with Franco...

    Money talks...

National Geo's most inquired photo--incredible eyes. My sister made a painting of her when that first appeared.

About as likely as a GP in North Korea...

    I disagree.

North Korea is currently completely isolated from the rest of the world. Iran is an open country that does business with the world (except the US). Big difference.

I'm not crazy about getting a GP of Iran, but I can imagine it. I couldn't even begin to think about a North Korean GP.

If there is a revolution in Iran, it might be conceivable. Without that, it is a pipe dream.

Fat chance they can sustain a GP in Iran. Turkey is a far better country as far as F1 is concerned and they had to kill it there.

Also, where do you get proper pit girls? You don't want them dressed head to toe in black, do you?

Maybe they could do a grand prix in all the worlds most repressive countries and a ticket could cost more than than a local makes in a month. Actually we may already be doing this in part. Just think, Grand Prix of Iran, Grand Prix on Venezuela, Grand Prix of North Korea, Grand Prix of Afganistan...
