I'm in the UK, didn't notice the Autoglym only in Europe tag sorry. The cleaner is only a mild de-greaser, the dressing is good because you spray on and give it a wipe but dont bother about smears because as the engine heats up you end up with a protective, uniform coating on everything. This does get dirty over time but next clean cycle removes old to replace with new etc. I imagine the drssing is like Armorall.

I use Mr.Sheen/Pledge on my motorbike too, especially good for black exhausts but I would never dare use it one the interior, these household cleaners are silicon wax based arn't they? That would melt the 355's black bits in a jiffy! I do what the manual says, damp cloth fine, maybe some mild soap.

    ps. If you dig though...

I have had good results with a product made for motorcycles called bikebrite.

You do have to wash it off with a hose so be careful but it works wonders.

Recommended to me by the local automotive leather shop,
I use 303 Aerospace Protectant on all of the rubber seals on my cars.
I also use it on the tires in lieu of messy tire dressing.
It makes it look clean and dark without excessive shine plus protects from UV rays.

It's not just for looks, it also protects and conditions.
Use something that is designed to do the job ......

    http://www.303products.com/shop303/index.cfm/category/1/303-aerospace-protectant.cfm

"303 is the leader in UV screening technology and 303 Aerospace Protectant really is like "SPF 40 Sunscreen ... For Your Stuff." Regular use of 303 Aerospace Protectant can reduce UV caused slow-fade by up to 100%. No other protectant beautifies as intensely, protects as powerfully or lasts as long.

The World's Most 'Manufacturer-Recommended' product: Because of its enduring cosmetic properties, resistance to dust, soiling, and staining, water repellency and unparalleled protective abilities, manufacturers worldwide recommend 303 Aerospace Protectant for countless uses:

Use on Rubber: Latex, Neoprene, EPDM Seals, weather-stripping, Wet/dry suits, rubber roofs, Vinyl, Hypalon, Urethane Vinyl awnings, clear vinyl, convertible tops, tonneaus, car bras, spa covers, pool covers, inflatable boats and so much more !"

I use Simple Green on NON-POLISHED aluminum castings and rinse thoroughly. Never any problems with discoloration or crazing.

Do not use it on polished aluminum, it WILL give it a white discoloration.

I have good results using Stoner Trim Shine after cleaning. Comment by Rifledriver should be heeded; I clean engine compartment only with cleaner on a rag; staying away from electrical/rubber (including cambelts and seals) is imperative. Many chemicals degrade these rubber components......

They have a full line of auto detailing products which I have found to be useful. the Trim Shine does not leave any sticky residue( thus does not attract dust/dirt), does not streak when wet.............

Your retort was to a post from March 2007! LOL. I am usually a few months faster than that...

For rain, if my cars are clean I will ride my motorcycle if its going to rain to save myself the time cleaning the cars. The F430 in Rosso Scuderia is hard to keep looking fabulous, and I certainly dont want to drive around a dirty car. Lets call it time management.
