Well, this is hijacking the thread but i feel compelled to respond. The car sold in a few weeks and I regretted selling as it was loaded on the transport. Look at the pictures (and there are more). It was not $37k but even if it was, look at the pics for a daily driven 12 cylinder Ferrari. Again, I note, that purchase would have been a solid investment.

BACK ON POINT. TOM IS GETTING UP THERE IN YEARS. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK OF A NEMBO/THOMASSIMA REUNION IN MONTEREY NEXT YEAR?

It's a great idea, but Tom's not only one getting up there. I no longer make that punishing trek. If you could organize it locally I'd be the first to sign up. Or, if there is enthusiasm for the idea, I'll take on the organizing. Let me know; my e-mail is [email protected]. He lives in West L.A., so somewhere on the West side, I guess. Ed

Wonderful idea but the Nembos, 2 of the three are in south Africa and the Thomassimas are not functional when not in need of resto.

Greetings from Goodwood, fantastic day here:)

Well, car's are transported from around the world for Monterey. This would be the yes time possible for putting such a gathering together and getting Tom up there (I hope!)

Plus, the exposure would boost the value of their cars more than the transportation costs:))

Good point and they need to be shown more, apart of Christies Monterey the spyder has not been seen in the US for eons, it should be shown at Cavallino etc and this Monterey idea is valid, someone should contact Franschoek, I can speak to Tom.

Interesting seeing this, knowing what I know of him today, how he looks and sounds, versus when he was a kid. Thanks for posting this relic ;)

I just got word today that Tom has died. Apparently he passed away over a month ago but I hand't spoken with Tom in a few months. I found out this morning over the phone from a mutual friend, Larry Crane. And actually Matthew Ettinger found out originally at at Cars & Coffee last weekend in Costa Mesa from a guy who was doing some engineering work with Tom.

I am saddened over this news as it caught me off guard. I will miss the old guy. I went through a lot to bring his stories into a presentable form. If only you knew....

I feel the loss now and wish I had another session with him at least. At least to have some sense of completeness. I had unfinished articles in process. You never know the last time you will ever speak to someone is the last time. You never know.

    I feel terrible today.

I may write about this more extensively later...

I'll be delving more into this soon and will update what I discover. For all purposes he's dead. I believe Matthew.

Dick Merritt told me some truly awesome stories of he and Tom in Maranello in the 1960's; TM was quite a guy - mad genius and one of a kind. RIP

Thank you, Marcel, for posting that photo. That must have been when he sold the California.

Definately one of those colourful individuals that made an interesting contribution to the heritage that Ferrari has today.
