348 Upgrades on the way

Just wanted to start this thread, with pictures upcoming to share with everyone. I delivered my 1991 Black 348 TS to the shop on Tuesday for the following upgrades:

1. Complete detail to include painting of the frame and undercarriage.
2. Wheel repair to two of the 360 wheels that were scratched during shipping.
3. Carbon Fiber dipping of the inner door sills which will include intergrated "Ferrari" ghosted in place of the rubber inserts.
4. Calipers Powder Coated Ferrari Yellow with the Ferrari lettering done in black.
5. Removal of the secondary muffler and installation of down pipes, powder coated and polished.

The shop I delivered it to are well known for incredible qaulity work and detailing so I expect the results to be nothing short of awesome. I have used this shop for detailing and Carbon Dipping on some parts for my Porsche and the results were AMAZING for a tenth of the price of carbon parts.

I will post pictures for those who are curious as soon as the project is complete.

Here is a picture of the door handles from my Porsche Cayman S that were carbon dipped. It is a "dipping"/painting process that ends up with a finish that looks exactly like carbon fiber. It can be done to almost any surface such as metal, plastic, etc... Looks awesome and is a fraction of carbon parts. For example both handles cost $30.00 for the pair. To buy them in carbon would have cost around $400-500.00.

I will post pics of all the work when it is completed.

Check out his website at www.checkerscustomcars.com. The end product is unreal. Any part you could imagine can be done and looks just like the high dollar carbon stuff. An entire interior could be done in carbon for the cost of a real carbon door handle. Here are a couple more pics of the carbon on the Porsche for reference.

I know that the porsche guys were sending him stuff because the finished product looked every bit as good as the factory stuff and the cost was not even close.

I am not sure about the home thing. The preparation of the part is crucial to the finished product and once the carbon is applied, the parts get clear coated just like a cars paint finish. Once the whole process is done, it will last as long as a paint job.

Really cool and cost effective way to get that look.

 

I don't know where you would get the supplies. I am sure someone sells it somewhere. For me, the shop I use does it for such a reasonable price, I could do the whole interior of a car for a couple hundred bucks and know it was done right.

It would be pretty cool to do it at home though.....unlimited possibilities!!!!!!!!

 

Definately check the shop out. You will be amazed at some of the stuff Steve and the guys can do. Worth every penny.

 

I dont know what the cost of the materials to do the carbon dipping would be if someone can find a source. But when you add up that cost, the cost of properly clearcoating the parts (no spray can here) and the time needed to properly prepare the parts, I cannot imagine it would be cost effective compared to the prices I have been given in the past.

Of course, I could be wrong but the prices are SOOOO reasonable, I would just assume drop the parts off and pick them up in a day or two. Done right, done fast and ready to roll.

With that said, if someone finds the product and it is cheap enough, even I would not mind giving it a go. It is an awesome end result.
