Good morning, I have on my tr 86 european version, a expansion cap pressure of 1,1 kg/cm . The correct one is 0,9 kg/cm . Do you think it's bad or not? the car run great with the 1,1 but i am afraid that it could be bad for water pump gasket and water hose. Thanks for your advice.
From memory.......the 0.9 bar cap is for V8's(308/328 series)...the V12 Testicleroaster uses a 1.1 bar cap! Using the 1.1 cap will do no harm I believe. The higher the caps rating the higher the coolants boiling point is what I was always taught! Hope this helps, P
And it should not cause an issue either unless there is a leak in which case you will find it sooner with the higher pressure cap
1.1 bar on my 86 US. I had .9 by mistake for a week or two after the major and the car kept burping up coolant. Swapped to 1.1 and she's tight as a drum. Can't imagine why a Euro version would have a different spec.

Hugo, increasing the pressure on a liquid will increase the temperature at which it boils. So in theory you can run at over 100 C but without the coolant boiling. I guess thats the reason for not removing the radiator cap until after the engine cools. Release the cap, you release the pressure, suddenly the engine boils and spits boiling coolant all over you I love the discovery channel! If your engine normally runs hotter than it should, the first thing to do is to find out the reason why. There should be no real reason to change the cap unless you want a shiny new one HTH P Image Unavailable, Please Login
Me too! Perhaps its because we live in the Frozen North I have both Rick so I am going to try the 1.1 for a few days and see if I notice the difference that you did. P
Thanks for your answer Phil, my engine is running at normal temperature with 1,1 kg cap . Never up 90 celcius even in traffic jam. I've ordered a 0,9 at eurospare , i'll try it to see the difference. Hugo
Hmmmm, I checked on this........ The USA cars ran a 1.1 bar cap.......why? Extra heat generated by emissions gear, more time idling in traffic??? Anyways the 1.1bar cap is fine on a euro car.......and as extra margin for safety the coolant boilpoint is increased as I said! P
