348 rear slats are dull

Just paint it Bro, pretty self explanatory. Not that difficult to accomplish. You can take it in to someone to have it professionally done but waste of money as you can do this in a matter of 4 hours start to finish. Use high gloss, use a mat finish, hell change it to body color, it's fairly easy.

 

My old E36 M3 had black trim around the doors that would turn white/chalky. I used Mcguires Back to Black or Forever Black (not sure which one it is) and it always worked very well. It does require it to be applied every few washes depending on car usage, but i always liked the glossy look it gave my car. And for $5 its worth a try...

I would go the respray route, that way you don't have to worry about it for a while.

 

If it wasn't painted in the first place (looks like it's just black plastic to me?) then just use some plastic treater or something?

Probably find it at a local auto shop/supermarket.

Best finish is Rustolium from home depot. It gives you a nice flat finish without any glossy spots here and there when you hold the can closer or not. No matter how much you spray that thing or how close you hold the can, it will still give you a cross thru flat finish without any variation.

 

On my Spider I had mine resprayed. I think it was $450 and it came out beautifully.

 

I might take mine in for powder coating. I get done very cheaply by piggy-backing on existing runs at a shop we use. Anyone know what was the orginal finish (gloss, semi-gloss, satin, matte)? Mine is so grey I can't tell, but I assume it was a matte finish.

 

I recommend Back to Black from Mothers.
I used it to restore some black parts on my wife's Chevy SSR and it worked very well.

I think the only option here is painting or refinishing of some kind. The "black" products won't work on metal, unless I'm mistaken.

Power Coat!!! I had my front and rear grill powder coated. Flawless finish that will last a lifetime.

 

If you decide to paint it. SEM Trim Black looks great and sprays smooth right out of the can.
