I just rode in my buddies 1st gen GTR yesterday. He has added a pretty sweet sounding exhaust and full carbon brakes. He tracks the crap out of it. It is wicked fast.

Still too mundane in exhaust sound for me. And the clutch has developed a pretty bad shudder on regular start from a stop. But for sure you cannot argue with the performance, especially with the price. It would certainly eat a 355 or 360 for breakfast.

But not too many folks would pick the GTR when the choice included a 458 and price was not an issue.

    For the money...

GTR in US is how much, $70,000-90,000?
A new 458 is tripple that.

If you spend another $100,000-150,000 on a GTR, it would blow the socks of anything Ferrari ever hoped to create. IMO even Veyron would be left in the dust.

For the money, GTR is the best car to get. Nissan know how to build fast sports cars that rival Ferrari, Lambos and Porsches for 1/3rd of the price.

For naive people like yourself, read the link below:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2037675/Petrol-head-builds-worlds-fastest-street-legal-car-garage--does-0-60-ONE-SECOND.html

"And for the creator, from Wolverhampton, the 29-year project which has cost him an estimated £100,000, it has all been worth it."

This thing would out run Veyron for 1/10th of the price. Heck, it would leave Barabus TKR (fastest car in the world) looking at the tail lights of this Vauxhall Victor.

A GTR with $100,000 in mods would be one of the fastest (if not the fastest) cars on the planet.

Seriously, why do so many Ferrari owners have their head stuck so far up their ass? F cars are pretty, but they are NOT that fast. They are like models, great to look at, but hopeless in the kitchen.

whew,,, what kind of troll are you..?

The car ran under the national class record with 7.0’s at 170mph in the quarter mile until its gigantic Vortech-like centrifugal supercharger was outlawed by the NHRA.
(oops, sorry don't feed the trolls.)

In any real-world driving experience, any stock Nissan GT-R either matches or out-performs the 458 in every category except one: braking.

Around the track, it's a different story, of course. But that point is completely irrelevant because the vast majority of both Ferrari and GT-R owners never track their vehicles and, the few who do, almost never enter them into balls-out, head-to-head races. In other words, the Ferrari's track advantage really never translates into anything genuine for most drivers. This is the problem with owning a car designed to perform best in an environment which most drivers never operate. For 95+% of drivers, it's the stop light-to-stop light driving that counts and it is this environment for which the GT-R was built. This is why, on the street, the GT-R has very few equals.

Factoring in price, of course, the GT-R exists in a world of its own. For the money, there is no car that comes anywhere close to delivering the performance of the GT-R. It will humiliate all but the most extreme exotics costing three or four times as much. And, best of all, it's idiot-proof so any moron can drive it. The 458 is, thankfully, a lot easier to drive than an old temperamental Enzo. But, like all mid-engine cars, requires a little skill to keep from losing it. In contrast, the all-wheel drive, front-engine GT-R feels like any other car--until you put your foot into it.

GTR is one of the fastest production cars to lap the ring. Any suggestion it is built for red light to red light is uninformed.... Check Nurburgring Production lap times.

Having said that I believe Nissan has a lot to learn.

Are you sure you are in the right car make forum? The straight piece of track in an everyday street car is typically reserved for high school kids, or simply put, there isn't anything to prove on it. According to this video, the difference between the Nissan and the Ferrari is one tenth of a second on this single run. But it's so much more than that, right?

You would be hard pressed to find any other sports car company, besides Porsche, that has accumulated as many championship wins as Ferrari.

Two car owners fill out their car registry info at the hotel check in, one writes "Nissan", the other writes "Ferrari". Enough said.

I'm actually glad to see the Japanese sport car niche flooded with "mods", the faster they can redline themselves into the salvage yard, the better. And in a few short years, one tail light assembly to a Ferrari will be worth more than an entire Japanese sport car.

I got into a race (of sorts) with a GTR on a twisty road when I was in my R8 one day. Well he was tailgating me so I sped up. Then I sped up more and so did he. So I popped it into sport mode and planted it as hard as I could and left him for dead . . until the road straightened and went to 2 lanes then he caught me and left me for dead. I could hear his exhaust growling so it did not sound so understated as people said.

I think the only reason I left him on the twisty part of the road is because the GTR is a handful to drive and the R8 very good for the typical amateur driver (plus I did learn a thing or two at the R8 driving school) and LOVES twisty roads. It was also a bit misty that moring so the AWD had an advantage me thinks. I did not know it was a GTR until he passed me on the straight part of the road. Generally, regardless of what car I am in from my stable, all fast cars, if a GTR comes calling, I get out of the way. I know my place on the hierachy of speed (I also get out of the way of ZR1's, and even Z06's, and of course 458's).

    Race was only 1/4 mile.

    Would have been nice,
    since they had the whole
    runway to play with,
to see them also run up to
    1/2 mile and
    1 full mile..........

Just a common sense revelation for you, anyone with 40k can go buy a 700+horsepower car. You are on a forum where some of the members drive Enzos, in other words, save arguments like that for the street racers out there that think their cool while they struggle to pay the 72 month financing they signed up for...

This video was sent to me last week by a friend. Did you notice that the entire field consisted of normally aspirated cars except for the twin-turbo Nissan GTR? And although
I really like the car, why was a Lotus Evora even in that group?

Don't know, the Lotus the 1M and the Cayman R although all fast cars aren't in the same league as the likes of the 458 italia, GT3 RS, and Z06 etc. I'am surprised there was no Lambo's, I don't know why you wouldn't put one in.
