Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

No. Questioning a project for lack of progress has nothing to do with wanting it to fail.

A year later, and your opinion hasn't changed a bit? The mere fact that this project has been moving along for this long, puts a hole in your 'lack of progress' claim. It's progressing. Just not at the speed you wish.

But relentlessly trying to find evidence to justify an opinion has a lot to do with wanting a project to fail.

This thread is getting quite annoying. How about we just stick with press releases and information regarding construction speculations/progress/information instead of the petty he said she said posts...? At least something a little more meaningful in your posts.

And everytime I try and do that, Simon has to say something negative...

Simon is in fact the "Baghdad Bob" here, since he repeats his mantra that nothing meaningful is happening and that the dirt movers are there for show, that new power substation and widening of the road is just disinformation strategy from Tavo and Co. Simon, are you getting your info from "authentic sources—many authentic sources" as BB used to say?

    I thought it was rhetorical. ;) :D

My opinion hasn't changed. I've always been 70/30 that it won't happen. I'm at that today...

Typically in road construction you overexcavate and get started with the pavement installation (which can be quite thick, sub base, stabilized base, concrete and any final overlay)...those activities can be ongoing while the final site prep and sloping are done.

I agree those six foot transitions might have to go, I have not reviewed any of the drawings.

It's a shame Mark cannot join us here in the discussion, but I respect that he has not.

In case anyone hadnt noticed, there's an optimist thread for those who prefer more positive spin... See "countdown to US Grand Prix Nove 2012"... :) The worst pessimist in this thread volunteered without prompting to stay outta there :)

The part about the 'property entry' delay is troubling to me.

That's terrible logistics planning, not to have multiple delivery points.
You absolutely need seperate gates if mixing Union/Right to work, if there is a strike.

The real question becomes,... is losing Hellmund bad for the project? Is this a power play by the McCombs empire? I don't see it,... but if if he plans to fund this entire thing,... makes more sense to be in complete control. Or is it death rattles?

Tex, where did you read that? Agree that's a logistical snafu, unless the site is configured in a way where there is no viable back door road access.

Do you recall the big presentation where McCombs spoke? He didn't seem to know much about anything with four wheels besides his truck. Maybe he's gained some interest. But all I recall is "and the Cowboy would come play, and... I... I like golf..." It was nonsensical ramblings from the old guy. Maybe he now understands what he's gotten into and perhaps, that he wants to make it succeed? (crossing fingers on that last part if your speculation is true)

There was a statement made here (somewhere) that the reduced site activity was due to the TxDOT widening of the road at the site entry.....

    Or, I dreamed it....I dunno

The lack of construction certainly has been a sign of progress to question, but as importantly too has been the eerie deafness on sponsorship and marketing announcements publicly and within the motorsport world. Corporate marketing budgets are being set now for 2012 and no whispers at all.. Too if you have been following staff hiring for the Circuit, very few hirings and odd positions that they are filling first.. You do sense something off about the current situation, it won't surprise me if there is a management shake up... Hoping for the best.

Haven't chimed in for a while, couldn't resist this one.

    This article
    http://www.statesman.com/news/local/central-texas-digest-f1-promoter-sued-over-services-1833715.html

    combined with

    http://www.statesman.com/news/local/slowdown-raises-questions-about-future-of-f1-1887471.html

leads me to question. Perhaps there is concern that there might be grounds to collect on 5% of Tavo's interest in the project. In order to shield the project, Tavo gives up his stake in the project. Transfer all rights and entitlements to COTA, and the lawyer is looking at 5% of ZERO.

Interesting thought,... but doesn't explain the work slow down.
