    I have a new one!!!

I have done a search on "rattles" and read many threads. Mine is a little different. I seem to hear a distinct rattle after the car warms up when I turn left. I sometimes hear the sound when I am going slow and hit a series of bumps as well. Sometimes I dont hear it at all. It definately sounds like something is loose. Does not sound clutch related because I have heard it when the car is driving along with no clutch involvement.

The sound is a deep sounding rattle and ALMOST sounds exhaust related but I cannot be sure. I wish I could be more specific. I have checked the heat shield and wheelwells. I cannot find anything specific.

Could the Cats rattle when hitting bumps if they are going bad? Would a left hand turn even play a role in a rattle. Driving me "F"......erarri crazy.

Thought I would throw it out there to hear suggestions.

    THANKS!!!!!!

If it are the cats, you might hear the sound when you bang you hand against the cats with the engine turned of.
If there is something loose, you'll notice...

    Happy wrenching
    Ben.

First thing I would do is check the torque on the wheel lug bolts. Wasn't it Pap who lost a rear wheel at low speed a few years ago when the bolts backed off?

Next thing I would check is the bolts holding the CV joints onto the inner and outer hubs.

Do you have a "clunky" rattle or a "tinny" rattle?

Hard to say. Just a rattle that is har to identify. Like I said, almost sounds exhaust related maybe but why would it be louder when you turn. Strange.

is the noise from front or back? If from front left, see if the brake cooling hose is loose, Just happen to me this week and found out that cooling hose behind the left front wheel was loose, was an easy fix.

Seems to be comng from the rear. Either something hitting on something or maybe the exhaust baffle?

OK. Checked all the bolts...inner fender well, etc... The noise is pronounced when I turn hard left but not when turning right. Sounds like something is rattling against the frame or the tire. I can only compare the sound to rolling a marble down a bumpy wooden floor. Soon as you straighten up, it stops. I very occasionally hear it when I hit a bump.

What the hell could be loose. I am pretty sure it is not mechanical but it is driven me nuts.

Any ideas or would someone refer me to a good psychiatrist!!!!

I'm not very sure if this will help. But I had a similar sound that only happened occasionally until one day it disappeared altogether. When I took my car in for an oil change, the mechanic noticed a piece missing. I wish I could tell you what exactly it's called, but it was a piece of metal, maybe 4 x 8 inches, that covered the shift cables. Shifter plate cover?? Anyways, I'm guessing that was the annoying rattle I was hearing. Over $100 for a plate I could have made myself in metal shop.

    Anyways, something to check maybe.....
