Top up, window switches work fine. Top down, window switches don't work at all ... unless the ignition is off, key is removed, door is open and then window switches will work again. Who designed this Italian electronics? Lucas? I will never buy a spider again.
that has to be something simple like a micro switch or something like that. I take its a 355 right? if it is try moving the windows at different phases of the top going down. like unlatch the top and move it until the beep sounds then try the windows stop the top half way and check the windows. I haven't done this but maybe it won't let you move the window if the top isn't in a particular state. I'm new to the car at this point.
Man, I am just waiting for some crap like that to happen to me, when it does I will be in there ripping out the stock crap wiring and directly wiring my own P/W switches. I have done this on other "old" cars and it always works much better...
The convertible top module interacts with the seats and windows. Dropping the windows and moving seats forward at the start of the top cycle. if the top is not completing a cycle or a micro switch is not showing the cycle is completed the top module will not release the functions of the seats and windows unless the key is cycled. Good luck.
Spent the last 30 minutes trying to think which switch or potentiometer wasn't working. My mind boggled, sorry.
Why? Windsock just gave you a giant clue to solving your issue, without a 'work around'. I would go back, look at the wiring and microswitches and see if you can figure this out.
I will look at that too but ... since the seat is moving under its own power, I am guessing that the cycle is completed but the top ECU maybe sending the wrong signal to the window relay. I am not very impressed with the power top in the 355 and the way it interferes with the seats, the windows, the handbrake, and all the microswitches to try and be smarter than the driver.
Well, after consulting the wiring diagram, I found that there is no relay controlling the window power. The entire operation is controlled by an ECU board that takes all the inputs from the top, switches, micro switches, and send out motor signals. So, not possible to bypass that.
Mine has a micro switch issue with the windows as well. I fixed the seat one...but the sequnce this car needs goes on and on... I'll work through that detail some day. Until then, I just unplugged the block at the console switch and ran two wires up to the emergency switch. One for "up" and one for "down". I grounded the center part of the switch. Now I open the doors, tip the seats forward, and hold the top operating switch in the desired direction until complete. return seats, close doors & I am done. Not as slick as a fully auto, but it works every time. YMMV.
I already bypassed the seat pots so the top works without that garbage. The top was hanging up a bit due to the elastic band losing it elasticity, but a little manual help can deal with that. The power top now works pretty well, except for the window mishap. Since there is no way to bypass that, I will have to regroup a bit and think through the next step. In the mean time, there is always that work around to move the windows when the top is down. My date: "Baby, it is cold. Can you raise the window?" Me: OK, but I have to pull off the freeway, turn the car off, remove the key, open the door, and then raise the window.
Seriously, watson is on the right track. The actual pump and fluid issue is easy enough to deal with - so far i am lucky in that my top functions as it should - so far - - Believe me when I say that if the day ever comes when I have issues, I will do as watson did by wiring the emerge switch to the top switch (really if you think of it, the sequence that he now has - open doors, tilt seats etc. is really not more difficult than factory) and if the windows give me trouble, they too will be completely hardwired to bypass any ECU nonsense - I have done this in other cars and it always results in better operation of the electric windows.
Haha - I was actually thinking I would bypass my pots before they fail since flipping the seats forward actually works better - the top can still hit the factory seats when they are in their "proper" ECU determined position - as you said "garbage" The elastic band on the top is another stupid part - HTF are you gonna tell me that my Ferrari has a piece out of an old lady's waistband to make the top work???... My top was hanging due to this crap as well - I tied a knot in both sides and now it works as new - this after numerous people looked at it and said - "well I guess the top must be F-----, you'll just have to flip the bar up every time you wanna move the top" Took me 30 sec. to fix and if I wanted to really fix it, I could sew up some new bands...
