yes, a French or Australian visitor would have worked hard to keep a smile on their face while being relentlessly taunted by the local morons. But that's Auckland for you. In part its the end result of 50 years of declining living standards relative to the rest of the developed world. NZ politicians and media have become expert at blaming everyone else for their problems. In the 1950's, NZ per capita GDP was the highest in the world, followed by Argentina and Switzerland, Australia a little way behind. The EU common market ended that while Australia became rich on mining (with apologies for vast generalisation). I'm happy they won. Entire streets are still sharing one portaloo in Christchurch...
