ITU - am about to try it to hopefully cure a few gremlins... before I go all crazy, thought Id ask this: once the temps are at around 190, should I redline it in 1st/2nd... or wait for later gears 3rd/4th... where does the ITU work its magic the most/best?

Also - considering I have never redlined a car before, how long should I keep her redlined?? a few seconds? longer??

Hold any car at red line at your own peril.
doesn't matter what gear, if you can do it in fourth you must have a long road to use.

Is this a 355? If it is, and you're not revving it to 8500 or so regularly, you need to get on it. Get your oil and your gearbox HOT, and start driving. Wind it out...yes; all the way to the top. If you overdo it, you'll just hit the cutoff limit, which is not a problem. These engines are made to run full out, and if you don't do that you're just going to gum everything up. Don't "save" your Ferrari for the next guy; use it the way it was intended to be used and, if you have a solid car, you'll have no troubles.

Also, you don't have to smoke your tires for any reason, unless you want to attract undue attention and pay for new tires. Breaking traction only slows you down. Also, check your flywheel bearings before you start dumping your clutch at high revs...a loose bearing equals a snapped output shaft.

Put 200 miles on it in one trip. I take regular 300 miles trips with periodic rest stops. I like to accelerate briskly from my rest breaks. You don't need to thrash the car. My car runs great even after a casual 300 mile trip. Many short trips are harder on any engine.

Don't just wait for temp to be 190. That only takes a few minutes, you want the transmission and everything to be up to temp. I don't push my car to limits until driving it for 30 or 45 minutes solid. Probably overly cautious but I like my car and want it to last.

If you are in Houston, drive it to the hill country for lunch, that will clean it up.

    Why? It's just a car. I don't get it.

I hope you're being sarcastic because if someone drove it 11/10th's, I don't see why that's such a bad thing.

I'm sure it was sarcastic. These English, with their odd sense of humor and Mr. Bean fascination are quite odd. ;)

Careful there mate... I still have those incriminating photo's of you. ;)

Just make sure I'm filming you next time you do that!!!!

Andrew and I are friends. Well... actually we were friends. Our friendship broke down when he drove his 348 off the cliff. That weren't so bad, but he then went and got a 355 as a replacement.

    :D

And you dont let me forget it do you??? OR and I've never looked back!

Haven't told you next years new race car is a 2cv have I? wanted to do a 24hr before i die thing. Will still be competing in the pfhc but a few fewer rounds, i'll miss those I'm crap at, so should still finish reasonably up there.

Once the oil temp is nice and hot, you need to beat it like red-haired step child. Red line as many gears as you stand.

Job security for guys like you is found in all the garages that hold all the Ferraris that don't get driven.

I don't think there is any reason to believe that an "Italian Tune Up" does anything at all, except maybe to blow out loose carbon deposits.

I'm so utterly pathetic, that my battery died and won't hold a full charge even with having a Griot's Garage trickle charger on it at ALL times. I should be shot and forever ostracized from the FChat 348/355 section. :(

    We try our best!

I also meant to do a proper reply to the question. I hit the rev limiter on occasion, but usually in competition use, times like when warming up the rear tyres, ie a burn out, your dropping the clutch at near the limiter and bounce off it for a while.
I also keep it in a lower gear before some corners when there isnt time advantage to change up due to imminent braking. the only other times really are when i forget to change up because i'm distracted by something or someone!

Whats interesting is the 355/348 engine has been remarkably reliable despite this so called abuse. the odd valve guide job many face. but nothing else. Of course the challenge cars had the rev limiter upped a bit, so they clearly thought there was more in it!

so I would say, hit it now and again, I don't think its a problem, but equally there is no advantage as your loosing power there and speed, so its actually quicker to change up just a smidge before. and make sure on change up your foot goes again to the floor! No namby pamby backing off!
