Congratulations on your purchase Onno. Amazing story about the atelier. I think around the time you get your car we'll be in Maranello to specify the Spider.

Who was your advisor? Mr. Gilles from Ferrari Design? I met him at the IAA. Untill then I didn't even know they had such an atelier. So he told me about the new atelier-concept and all the technologies they have to do, well... everything a costomer can request. In the end I got invited to come to Maranello to specify the Spider.

After your story I'm very excited to go! Thanks and good luck!

Below: a photo I made at the IAA. I don't know if you can see, but I think this is your colour?

Sorry italia458, I missed your post. I think I have already said why I changed from Nero Daytona, but anyway: Nero Daytona is too grey for my liking. It is not really black at all. The recipe was changed by Ferrari in recent years and when I saw the rental 458 in Maranello upclose I knew it wasn't the colour for me. Then I saw Nero Stellato on a 458 spider (one of the first ever produced), and I realised it is a more exciting colour. It has a bit of reddish sparkle, which goes well with the red roof but the black is also much more, well, black.

    Anyway, back on topic.

Time stands still for no man, and sometimes that is a good thing, most times it is bad. In this case it is a very good thing. I've sort of put the 458 in the back of my mind for the last couple of months. But I got an e-mail from the dealer on Saturday that my car is going to be put in an April production slot! Time to get excited again!

By the way - I have made two changes to the specification this weekend.

    1. The factory clear bra is back on. As I'm picking the car up at the factory and driving at least 2000kms before she even gets off her export plates, it will be silly not to have the clear bra on.
    2. A friend showed me photos of a 599GTO with CF scuderia shields. I think that will look awesome on my black 458, so I've asked for those. They will also go well with the CF wheel caps I had ordered. No idea of costs yet.

I have the CF wheel caps on my black sport rims and have asked for the CF shields for the 458 which don't seem to be available yet.

I, too was recently told that the CF shields are not available of the 458. I know they will be polarizing in terms of who likes them. Heck, just the standard shields are polarizing!
    IMO, they look way cool!

Also, I don't know why they can't change small things once it goes red. I understand that it would be a PIA for everybody to keep calling and changing things while in production.
But, that's what we're paying for isn't it. It is a custom built car to individual specifications.
I asked to change the tires from Pirelli to the Michelins and they did indeed do it. I was made to feel like I was very lucky to have moved a mountain!

I congratulate you on a beautiful and unique color combintion inside and out. As one who has just completed the process, choosing a white/black and all black interior, I share your joy and gatitude to this forum for making the "job" much easier. Personally, I have never spent as much time and energy building a car, great fun. Best

Interesting to hear the shields are not available 'as yet' in your experiences. I have not had confirmation and I might be refused. I will know more soon, I am sure. If the shields are not available now, I might be able to get them at a later stage - the dents will already be there from the yellow ones. It would be very surprising to hear that they are not available for the 458 when other cars have had them. The whole Tailor Made programme should be exactly for things like this.

@RBK - thanks for the compliments and congrats on building your own dream 458. Like yourself, I have found the process of putting it all together great fun.

I remember you saying how everyone should get a new Ferrari from the factory to their own spec, at least once, and I see now that that's what you're doing.

Good luck with the car, Onno :)

PS. Those CF shields look fantastic. Never was a fan of the yellow shields (blasphemy, I know), these are not Ferrari race cars... But the CF ones totally work!

It seems the CF shields are a sort-of Ferrari OEM-after-market option called a "Genuine Option" or something like that. All this means that ex-factory (when I pick it up) she will have yellow shields and the dealer will have to install the CF shields, coming from the same factory, later.

    Italians.... :)

This may all be common knowledge to people out there, but it was new to me so I thought I'd share:

The CF shields are not yet an official option for the 458. It is possible that the 430 shields fit, but the 599 or 612 ones definitely don't because of the curvature of the shields (relating to the placement on the fenders). The 458 version will come in the next month or two, but currently are not yet available.

I also found out more on the exhaust options. There are 3 exhaust tip options: standard (chrome), the "sports exhaust tubes", which are matt black tips, and the titanium exhaust tips. The latter are nice looking but not worth the money for me (1500 euros including fitting, it needs to be installed by the dealer). Since I've got a black car I will go for the standard chrome. The matt black ones are about 750 euros including fitting.

There are also two types of non-standard silencers available. There is one only for track use, which reduces the noise levels to 96dB. There is also a sports exhaust option for road use, which increases the noise levels from standard. All these are aftermarket options, so can't be fitted at the factory. I've decided to keep it standard but go for the button to open the valves, which my dealer can arrange for me.

    For more info, see ferrarigenuine.com

There are quite a few aftermarket things that you can find on there that I wasn't aware of, such as CF doorhandles. It is regularly updated with new options, so perhaps it's worth your while to have a look.

I have been waiting for the CF shields and that's the info that I had on their availability as well. There is another option for the exhaust tips. You can have them sent out and painted matte or gloss black. I saw a 458 with the rear grill pony and exhaust tips painted at the service dept as I was picking up my 458 and it looked amazing. The valves open will give you a much louder, deeper sound which I just love.

I think the black tips look fantasic if you have any other exterior colour than black. For my car, it's blends in too much IMHO.

I'm really looking forward to having the selection of valves open/closed at arms length, no doubt it will be used often! ;)

I think you nailed the classy, but racy, but different look perfectly. I recently saw a new 599 at my dealer in Rubina with a matt black roof. It looked outstanding. As I have sold my 458 coupe and am waiting for final go ahead on spider spec, rubina has often been considered. Problem is I was going to do bordeaux upper dash and tan seats/doors/lower dash. Couldn't come to grips with stitching. Had planned on red stitching throughout. Thought bordeaux and red "fought" each other. Curious what atelier says. As you are going black/bordeaux, wonder if he will steer you towards sabbia or "bone" color stiching to accent all your colors. Also, I wouldn't do mugello red roof. Would look great with black, but rossa corsa brakes and bordeaux will throw too many different colors together IMO. If you want to go subtle, still play up bordeaux/black, there is classiche color "vernaccia". A true dark plum. Please keep me/us posted. I still have time for spider spec and would love to do rubina if I can work out combo with light interior/contrast stitching that I like. Again, outstanding spec. Bellisimo

I've already decided, with appreciation and OK from the Atelier guy, that Rossa stitching would be the way to go as it will look good with both black and bordeaux. I also wanted the stitching to 'highlight' a bit, not too much, but Rosso contrasts just enough with both interior colours.

I'm not going with Rosso Mugello for the roof, it's going to be Rosso Maranello. I've considered Mugello but it's not metallic and I really like Nero Stellato. I think if you go for one colour in metallic then the other should be metallic too.

Vernaccia is a beautiful colour. I know a person here in Holland who ordered his 599GTO in it, with cream stripes, and I love that car. Just love it! But it didn't suit my 458 (IMHO).

Here's two pics of that 599GTO.

Thanks for the compliments, glad you like my experiment. :)

Saw your atelier info right after posting my comments. I saw a Maranello Red FF at the launch of the FF here in Atlanta, GA. I think you made a great choice given the red undertone of the black you chose. If I had the $ and guts I would consider trying that combo on my spider. As you can tell from the threads, bicolor on the spider a hot topic. I love the bi-color Ferraris and other cars of their day. Don't want to miss out on today's performance however. I think that is why your bi-color is so fascinating to me. It brings back the style of old but with color palate of today. In America there is a computer repair company called "The Geek Squad." They use VW Beetles painted black and white. Every Ferrari 458 in this combo always elicits the sensation that it is a delivery vehicle! I am sure they will censor me for that comment. But color really does make so much of an impact on the feel of the car. I think that is why yours hits so many of the right feelings you are supposed to get with a modern, hand built vehicle: bespoke, classy, racy. Thanks for vernacchia photo. Seems like you guys in Holland have a flair for color. Regards. Randy

I found a couple of clips showing the colours of my 458. The Nero Stellato clip is horribly shot but you can see the copper sheen quite clearly. Too bad I haven't found any shots of this colour in sunshine yet, I would be most grateful if anyone has those (still or video).

    Status 20!

I have a chassisnumber and a delivery date: 10th of April. But because of my specs it may be a bit later, should before May though. At least we won't have to wait for the shipment etc, we're picking it up in Maranello.

    Very excited now! :)
