Take your time and stop working when you are fatigued. Most of my mistakes and nearly all of my bleeding have occured while trying to finish a job when I'm tired.

This guy told me something at the track one day in the pits, and it is the most common sense thing I've ever heard.

"When troubleshooting, if you hear hoof patter, think horse, not zebra"

What he meant was don't get super complicated and over diagnose it, it's probably the most obvious concern.

"If you break it, it's comin out of your paycheck"

That get's expensive quick working on Ferraris :D

I owe this one to my brother -
"When working on my Ferrari, I stop working when I have broken three things!"
Ever since, when I work - the first time I break something (and don't laugh - it happens all the time on these cars). I say (and I actually say it out loud) - "that's ONE".
And when I get to three - I quit for the day.
I have found over the years that there is very little time between breaking item #3 & #4. So if I quit for the day, #4 does not happen...
This also keeps me from hating the car - I bought it as I enjoy wrenching on it as much as driving it. Why else would I buy a nice car and live in the cold Northeast!

When I was going through Air Force Technical School my instructor told me if you're having trouble with something and you've been working on it for a while, take a break. After you take a break I have found out that 99% of the time things go together or apart much easier.
