    I looked through the seach and couldn't find much about it. I am looking at purchasing a 355 with the F1 trans and have this question. Can you replace the clutch yourself or do you need a Ferrari deal to do it. You see, all the cars I have owned I did everything myself. From clutch to timing belts. Now I see this one car with the F1 and am thinking of buying it. If it had 3 peddles I would have bought it already. I am new F1 repair issues but have driven several.

    Luigi - I'm not a "do-it-yourself guy" but I've had the clutch replaced on my '99 F1 and understand that it's no different than changing one in the manual shift version... same flywheel, thrust bearing, etc. Main difference would be to ensure the F1 hydraulics get re-attached and properly sealed. When I had mine replaced by a Ferrari dealer, they actually botched that part, which resulted in a leak.

    But, do you still have to hook it up to a computer to for it to know that it is a new clutch, and calculate and new thickness changes? I here the stories of people bringing there cars in and the dealer can tell them how much clutch they have left.

    No you do not need to hook up to a SD2 or SD3 to adjust clutch. The 355 manual has a re-calibration sequence that you must follow that will adjust your clutch spacing.

    Luigi,

    Since you are new to the F-1, I have found that it is beneficial to let the clutch warm up prior to launch. My car has had the clutch replaced prior to my ownership and I have about 22K miles on this clutch. I let it warm to the point where the temp gauge is reading above the 120 degree(F) mark. Makes a big difference with my car.
