Those with a 348 might want to trade up to this?:

Watch the 1991 Syclone truck video. Hope you find the humor in this.

I don't understand how an heavier 280HP pick up vehicle beats a 348 in acceleration ? Perhaps really short gears ?

I don't think Jay likes Ferrari very much and I'm not sure if he owns any.

It's quite simple really. HP is a calculation based on engine RPM and torque. The only real power measurement is torque. When compared to the 348's pitiful 239 lb ft you can see the Syclone's 360 lb ft would destroy it in acceleration and add an automatic with a torque converter and it's even worse. This very high torque measurement to HP is common in power adder engines or long stroke engines while the low torque to HP ratio is common is high revving short stroke engines.

Correct - he was disappointed with the level of customer service when he walked into a Ferrari Dealership, so he walked out and never Ferrari a second look...you can read about it here:

Let's be honest, the Ferrari 348 was not god's gift to the automotive world. There are always faster cars out there than yours regardless of whether you drive a 300hp early 90's Ferrari or Bugatti Veyron.

    Then there's this:

Also has 4wd. Syclone tops out about 130, so it's victory would be short lived at higher speeds. Not a fan of the truck, but I just wanted you guys to hear Leno's bs comments and what he compared it to.

Never understood making trucks into "fast" vehicles. No point to it, IMO. If I want to go fast, I'll drive something that can corner. If I want to haul manure, I'll drive a pickup.

After the review of the 348 vs Syclone, the 348 driver realized they should have done a higher rev start. they were closing on the Syclone at the end of the 1/4 mile, so getting a slightly better off the line start would have yielded a win. It made for great reading for fans of the GMC brand though.

I know the kids today drool when they see a Syclone [/sarcasm]

the syclone was 280hp rated, but usually dynoed better, and the GN sourced turbo V6 was easily tuned for more power.....quik in a straight line for sure!

that little truck was a monster at the time. The 348 was a bit of a lump in its first 2 years. The compairison is accurate...unfortunatly. They were comparing a truck to a truck. Love the 348, but that little truck would smoke a lot of cars, even to this day.

This depends on what part of the country you are in. I know a lot of guys who would want a GMC because they couldn't throw their bloody deer carcasses in the back of a Ferrari LOL
