Saw this one last week. Yes, FDE car, and clutch is not new, and I don't know about service/windshield. My experience there was very negative. Insulting, condescending, diss'ed on forums and lack of knowledge here, finally wouldn't budge on $188 price, and said buyer was coming on Sat -- take or leave it kind of attitude. Very arrogant. Sorry, I shouldn't have to wear a suit, and it was a long drive. CF headlights crazed badly but insisted it was the clear bra. LOL, price dropped $4K two days after I saw it and he wouldn't budge but before "buyer" was coming on Sat. In general, too fishy for me. Did not trust this dealer. Was supremely convinced the FDE car was worth more than non-FDE because it was "cared for" by FNA. Also, was a press tour car.

Curious, what is a "press tour car"? is these the ones FNA uses for track use?

Yes. His loss IMO. I probably would have gone for it with a small discount if he would have fully established my comfort/trust in him, the dealership, and the car. Instead, he refuted about everything I said and told me to not believe forums which are filled with a bunch of 16 year olds. I assured him I know several of the very technical users from the Porsche world and am an engineer myself.

FDE = Ferrari Driving Experience = the track cars. My guess is that the press tour cars are ones that are taken to product launches/shows/events/demos and given to test by magazines/etc.

The "buyer coming on Saturday" was a lease deal all worked out from a guy flying in from Arizona. I thought it might be you :)

See you are also a former Porsche/Boxster owner...

Maybe a different sales rep. Although it was via several phone calls, I had a very pleasant experience with FM San Francisco (really in Mill Valley). We discussed their '09 Scuderia openly, he explained how it was used, what was done to it by FNA to prep it for sale, etc. In the end I decided it wasn't the right car for me, but the sales rep was willing to listen to what I wanted, and asked if he could have a day to try to 'locate' something I would be interested in. In a few days we spoke again; he proposed an F430 coupe, and I politely declined. We parted on good terms.

Possibly a different rep. Glad your experience was good. My rep was reasonable over the phone, but I did not appreciate a couple snide remarks. Not here to air dirty laundry, though. Too much already. Just to point out what I was told about the car and caution what/why I didn't trust what I was told.

I did have a great experience at Ferrari of Redwood City. The salesman was a complete enthusiast and was interested in my needs. Carefully explained things to look out for and pointed out any weaknesses without asking. They have 2 Scuds plus a 16M -- just not my top choices in colors/options. One is an FDE car.

Based on mileage that makes sense for wholesale.

My guess was 165K wholesale for an 08 with 8K miles.

It looks like the market is placing about a dollar per mile deduction. (15-8)

I had tried to buy that 09 FDE Scud in the early/mid part of the year. I spoke to both a sales rep and the sales manager. They were forthcoming about the car's history and both treated me with courtesy and respect. We could never get there on price. My highest offer to them was $179,000 and their best price was $187,000. I am certain that they have had that car for sale now for 1 year. I could never understand why they wouldn't want to move the car but neither party could convince the other. I bought a very late 08 scud with all the trimmings at a number I liked and they have still have a car for sale at too high a number. Still a mystery to me but they were straightforward to deal with. Perhaps they are just simply fatigued by owning the car for so long and someone at the dealership has put an unachievable number on the car?

I saw the same thing with Scud's I offered on back in early 2011. Dealers were holding out for their price (usually very, very near their asking price). Maybe it was because summer was coming? Not sure. But, it does amaze me that dealers will hold onto $200k ish cars for up to a year in some cases. Now, to be clear, these are modern Ferrari's. Not classics! Thus, we all do agree they are depreciating assets. As a business decision, to hold onto a $200k depreciating asset for up to a year rather than come down $5-10k on price makes no sense to me. And likely isn't working out in favor of these dealers. I saw a Scud yesterday that has been for sale for 6 months at a local dealer. They have lowered their asking price to a (now realistic) level and still no takers...down $15k since since they got it. I wonder if they had offers higher than its current listing price back when they first go it? Not to mention interest/holding costs over the past six months...

I know that argento scud, a customer owned it for about a month. Had alot of the carbon recplaced under factory warranty. The front bumper repainted then sold it back to Scottsdale because his Aventador came in. Was a nice car, I would guess they would take $170-175k to move it.

For all the people saying they are amazing dealers holding strong on the prices and not willing to budget 5 to 10k on the price from what you are offering, hmmm well no offense but that does not support your theory prices are dropping?? If anything all you posters (dreamers) are proving prices are holding strong and dealers not dropping down to your dreamer prices.

Actual buyers like Gilly are posting and proving prices staying strong at around 190 to 200k for solid examples.

Maybe this topic title should be changed to Scud prices are stabilizing.

I don't think any of the recent post are from "dreamers".... and I think this thread has really been a good source for links on good deals out there for prospective buyers....

Agree the thread title is probably OBE'd now...

I take it you own one?

I'm most certainly not a dreamer, but yes I expect a dealer that lists a car for, lets say $200k asking price, to be prepared to sell it for 5-10% below that. And, to be sure, many do. Some, on the other hand, have held them for months, going on a year+ in some cases. That is hardly evidence of prices stabilzing!

Now, to be clear, I do not think scud prices are collapsing currently. They are falling as the normal modern ferrari curve would suggest. However, I think they were falling pretty rapidly a year ago or so. At that point a great 2009 was less than 2 years old and was avail all day long for $220k ish against a sticker of $315k only 12-18 months earlier and remember there were some "above sticker" transactions when they first came out - that is a steep drop off of $100k ish or 30%+. So, the facts suggest that Scuds fell somewhat more rapidly at first than other recent cars. I suspect it was three factors; (i) the high sticker prices limited the market marginally, (ii) the economic meltdown in 08, and (iii) the introduction of the 458.

These cars have come down from $220k asking prices to $200k asking prices for 2009 cars over the past 12 months. That is pretty normal for recent F-cars (you should graph the recent historical depr trends for 360/430 and 550/575/599/612 in case you doubt this...)

Yes, but to be fair, let's also not confuse wholesale/trade-in value for retail sale value.

Agree, use the actual wholesale numbers as a baseline to educate yourself about what kind of markup the dealer has factored into your car or depreciation hit from paying higher from a private party..
