Thankfully, I should be able to watch this race live unlike the last several....I didn't even get to watch the last race until a week later. So, I am thrilled this could be one hell of a season closer. Everyone's out there with little to lose. Have at it boys.

Anyway, yeah, really looking forward to the race, rain mixes everything up and I've always enjoyed Brazil.

 

+1 Brazil remains raw and unpredictable. Should be a fun ride!

Rain in Brazil is especially tricky with the horrible track surface IIRC (?)

But, I don't think it's so much the track surface as the topography - If it rains, there's rivers running across the track at a couple of points. Plus, IIRC, it doesn't drain worth a damn.

I can argue the "rain is awesome" thing both ways - It *sometimes* makes for some good qualifying (if you like lotteries) and/or good mixed up races. We sometimes even get to see who can drive.

OTOH, it makes for a lottery, which is not what F1 should be all about IMO. [Dons flamesuit ]

Well I always thought that the pit entrance is a bit suicidal: If you miss the entry you're bang on the piece of dividing wall sticking out. You can see it from the on car cameras as well as when you play a F1 game.

 

I've certainly hit that wall head-on playing an F1 game. It's a good thing for me that I'm not a real racing driver!

I'd be happy to see the pit entry changed to improve safety, and just hope they try to preserve the rest of the track.

I agree for tracks like Bahrain and China. I disagree for tracks like Istanbul and Hockenheim. Ja, Hockenheim: It has character. It is no longer what it was but that's not Tilke's undoing. He was given half the land and had to work out something.

I really do believe he gets blamed for a lot of BS from other people: E.g. the castration of Barcelona with the final chicane: I'm sure he didn't volunteer to destroy the flow of the track by putting that in. He was simply told to do it (if he even designed it).

COTA would have been a great track (almost perfect except for the last few turns). Oh well.

What Tilke does really good is the whole pit complex: He always builds those garages in the style of the host country's architecture. He could build them all the same, but he doesn't and the s/f area looks better for it.

 

Agree'd he does make a circuit that works and is comfy and accessible. I do like Hockenheim of course. He does have limits he has to work with and we probably should give him a bit more leeway and credit given the structure/limits imposed on him.

 

Yup. I'm pretty sure the safety board demanded a lot of the boring midrange turns, which are safe but unspectacular.

The Tilke tracks I hate (like Bahrain and China) are those where instead of elevation changes or interesting scenery he just puts out an endless string of left and right turns. The great tracks all have some very simple design with not too many turns but some that are very different from each other.

Tilke has a tendency to put in too many turns instead of staight lining some corners. Then again, that too might be dictated by the Safety apostels.
