Hi All, I'm still getting to know my new Mondial - drove it almost 1,000 kms last weekend and just love it!!! Driving through he Alps was just spectacular!!! In Chamonix, France last Saturday I parked in front of the restaurant I went into for lunch. I had a great time observing the reactions of people walking past. Three people stood beside it and and asked others to take their photo. Many more stopped and bent down to look inside. Lot's of comments - usually - "wow" or "it's a Ferrari!". (In contrast - I never heard anybody say "wow look - it's Mont Blanc!") Nobody new I was watching. What I found astounding is that only one person touched it - a young lady who asked someone to take her picture gently pat her hand on the roof before she walked away. I did hear many Dad's telling kids "do not touch". Enough rambling from a proud new owner so on to my question for you......I believe that I should be able to "flash to pass" the fog lights when the headlights are off. As you might have guessed - this feature doesn't work on my car. I have also noticed that when my low-beams are on and I flash the hi-beams they don't put out much light. When I do this, the blue indicator light on the dash comes on but it is very dim. In contrast, when I activate the hi-beams I have a full strong beam of light and the blue indicator on the dash is nice and bright. Any thoughts - is my headlight switch the problem or could it be something else? Thanks for your thoughts!!!!
The good news is that your symptom (high beams and blue dash working well when turned "on" directly, but both being dim when pulling on the headlight stalk when the low beams are "on") greatly narrows down where the trouble may be located; the bad news is that it could still be the stalk "pull" switch itself, the fuse-relay panel, or a bad connector. First test -- Do your hazard flashing lights work well? (This uses the same +12V power to do the manual flashing.) On easy thing that you can do is unplug/inspect/reseat the horizontal white connectors that are plugged in to the fuse-relay panel (look for any "burned" connectors). If you (or someone else) can post a photo of your Mondial 3.2 fuse-relay panel similar to this photo of the TR fuse-relay panel: Image Unavailable, Please Login where the wire colors in the upper horizontal white connectors at the bottom are visible, I may be able (with better certainty) to give some more specific suggestions about voltage measurements that you can make to better locate the trouble. Also, another easy thing to try is to replace relay "r" (relay for flashing) with a different ...101 relay (but I'd put a low probabilty on this as you report both flashing with the headlights "off" and flashing with the low beams "on" are not working -- but it's an easy thing to try )
Emergency flashers work fine. The only other electrical issues are the power antenna does not work and the tach will not read above 4K. I don't like the look of the electrical tape I see in two places or the relay that appears to be covered in foam on the left. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, you've got some obvious molestation going on That "added" relay in the foam is probably bypassing the (high-current) function of one of the relays in the fuse-relay panel. If you've never unplugged and inspected the white connectors you probably should. The hazard flasher working well is a good sign for the +12V power being present for getting to the headlight stalk "pull" switch (but not a guarentee). Next step would be to measure the voltage on the AN (light blue/black) wire as described in this jpeg (with everything plugged in -- you should still be able to touch the metal terminal of that AN wire with your probe from the voltmeter): Image Unavailable, Please Login If you "fail", the next step would be getting to the headlight "pull" switch to make some voltage measurements there. If you "pass" (but the flashing function doesn't work), give a shout back and we'll go from there.
Thanks for the procedure - will be back in the garage later this week - will let you know what I find out. Thanks again..... much appreciated
You continue to amaze me with your depth of knowledge, accuracy and willingness to help everyone on this forum. The threads that you have contributed to will prove to be extremely valuable to all going forward. Thanks for your continued support. - Ron Frohock
Thanks for the very kind words Ron (and I wouldn't mind getting a pay raise from Rob ). I'm always glad to look into an interesting problem (and hopefully learn/understand the cause and the fix). Unfortunately, sometimes I just don't have access to the necessary F technical resources (e.g., a 456MGT wiring diagram to look into ross's recent strange Gremlin).
