Why not remove the horse and fit the plate flat like the second pic at the top of the thread (the red car with M V458)? No aero problem then, surely?
Don't put one on. If a cop asks where is your front number plate? Tell him I'm not required by law to have one but only by statute. And as statutes only have the force of law when consented to by the governed all you need to say is I don't consent. The cop will argue with you on that but he does'nt know the difference between lawful and legal. Tell him this and make him aware that under the law this is considered gross negligence and as a result he is guilty of deriliction of duty. You don't even own your car, at least not in the U.K. When you register the car you hand over the title of it to the government. You are just the registered keeper. So when you break a so called "law" which are actually only statutes you are breaking the terms and conditions of the contract you agree to if you consent by co-operating, giving your details etc. If this interests anyone you may like to do a bit of research on the freeman movement. Rob Menard and John Harris cover a lot of ground on the subject.
Sorry bud, you're in the wrong thread. This one is for markets where the front plate is required. Although, reading your post again, you might be in the wrong forum. You're after www.freeman.com
It is very interesting how front plates are going to work in the States. We have huge obnoxious plates.
That's the way ONE , and now may two Lamborghini SV owner's were able to get the exemption here in WA. There is no legitimate Ferrari factory mounting bracket for the 458, and you can't order one if you tried. This leaves the Owner to try to fabricate his/her own bracket, this gives the owner a very strong argument, and one that the St of WA has accepted in the past as one of their criteria for the exemption.
I don't recall the F430 having a bracket either. But every F430 where I come from has a front plate - mounted straight on to the bumper.
You just get a ticket if you get caught.....and that would be very rarely! I agree with the low hanging plate or maybe if you have a very small one in your country to put it over the horse in the middle like the Swiss one (zh plate) I am planning not to put one on my California either in London and argue my case if stopped ;-)
Auto Express magazine in the U.K. recently run an article about driving the 458 from Italy to England. They were stopped in France and forced to put the plate on by the local police which meant them going to the nearby Fiat garage and drilling holes in the bodywork right there and then. And that was on top of the 90 fine. The French can be like that sometimes...
The police in Australia would never do that. They would just write you a ticket with a fine and 3 demerit points - with a promise to do the same tomorrow if they see the car with no front plate again.
not sure this is entirely legal in Sweden since we have white plates with black letters and numbers... but it looks OK... http://www.flickr.com/photos/anyett/5067160188/
Anyone know how this last mounting was done? Remove the Cavallino and mount plate then reattached? How does it come off? Thanks...
I agree completely. But since I have been pulled over for not having one and given a ticket, it isn't worth not having....
In the US we have certain states that require a front plate. I live in Mass. Which requires a front plate, I never mounted it, I keep it inside the car and when I've been stopped (just once so far) I simply told the cop that I had mounted it, it fell off and I keep it inside the car with me. It worked that time but I think I'm pushing my luck. I don,t like the look at all, my new 458 will be registered in Florida at my second home, does anyone know if Florida requires a front plate?
No front plates in FL. The only front plates are on kids cars wh o try to doll them up to look European.
Here's why some governments like front plates. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atqstmYtp7I&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame]
We have metal US size license plates in Colombia. However if you keep the plate in the dash its ok. It is still a pain in the butt to have the plate moving around and scratching glass and dash. Since I did not want to tape it, heres my solution: suction cups! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
First world problems Personally, my vote is for reject the plate, and carry it inside the car. Wish Ferrari thought of this when designing the car!
If you are hassled, show the plate and tell the gendarme, "It is ugly and there is no place for it." There is a good chance you will not be cited. If you do get a citation, pay it...The cost of owning the vehicle.
I know of no one. In my own case the vehicle is registered in another state to which it will never return, so I run with only the rear. CA police will not enforce another state's plate law.
