Gold kit help

    Installing a gold kit and doing fine 'till I got to these plugs. The kit comes with "round injector plug parts" that are round male and female pins that I presumed replaced the ones on these fittings since they look almost (ha!) the same. I replaced the female pins first, but now find they won't seat in the old plastic body. I screwed up somehow, but not sure where. Do those original round plugs not get touched and the round pins in the kit get used somewhere else?

    That's where they are supposed to go - is it possible you have the male and female ends reversed? Also, you can unscrew the plastic connector from the metal bracket on the plenum and remove the whole injector/temp sensor wiring rail assembly making installation much easier. I've attached a write-up with some pics when I did mine.

    Sometimes you have to make sure that the small tabs on the side of the terminal are spread out so they can click into place. You should hear or feel slight click once in place. Sometimes when you handle the terminal those wings on the side get pushed down. Take a small flat head and gently pry out the wings those they can seat. Your doing great.. just take your time and move forward. Another thing I found is that sometimes it takes a good push to fully seat the terminal. You may think its all the way but its not. Try clasping with the hemostat and that will give you some better grip when trying to seat the terminal. Dont clasp too high up because the wire will bend and collapse not allowing the wire to enter the hole fully. Clasp about 2mm from the top of the terminal. That was the sweet spot I found worked best.

    Nope. The fault was Ours in supplying the incorrect terminals for the application. Damn I hate when that happens!

    Can't thank Dave enough for taking the time to figure out the problem. I had presumed I had screwed up something big-time, and it would have be easy for him to make the same assumption.

    Goodness no.. I already hold the title in the mistake dept.

    Any question why I have gray hair, todays findings on a 348? How long has this been a problem, and how long would it have taken to track it back?

    I run into that fairly often, the old 'extra long drywall screw thru your conduit" trick..that's amazing to see in an auto though, you'd think the guy inserting the block into the bulkhead would have been watching that...

    It shimmed it out from sitting flush, after all....:D

    2. Whats the price $ and how long will it take somebody experienced to install, say a good Ferrari technician?

    3. Does this solve a myriad of future/pending electrical issues?

    Are these from a 348? Looks like the tips on the black wire are burned. What kind of symptoms other than a blown fuse? I love a good sherlock holmes case when it comes to electrical failures.

    nope, broken and torn, screw went right through it as well. 8 strands left intact on the black wire, 3 on the white/red wire

    This is the type of thing where there is no way to charge an owner the time that would have been involved in diagnostics of a problem such as this. Guilt would get in the way of doing so and the 348's label of being an electrical nightmare would be built upon even more. The worst is ..... both of these were CAUSED by someone chasing an electrical problem.... can you imagine?

    I no longer waste time chasing problems until the GCK kit is installed. That amounts to a waste of time and money when a high percentage of the problems are fixed in the process of the install.

    Great to hear the OP got his issue resolved! Kudos to Dave for quickly identifying the mistake and rectifying it!

    Yup........ and its quickly becoming the norm these days. We know and understand the cars and all of the systems very well now. Our understand of the engine management systems was advanced an enormous amount in all of our research during the GCK developement. All of the knowledge works against us when we have to put this type of problem into the equation. Imagine trying to rationalize the results of various tests while trying to chase results of this type of thing.... impossible! In the end, the model gets blamed, couldnt be further from the truth.

    My apologies for Creating an issue that needed to be resolved in the first place! FedEx is grateful but.........

    I had tin foil over the oil filter opening, but had to remove it for the flash photo... too much reflection back. It was replaced after the photo shoot.

    What kind of drunk Italian factory slob would drive not one but two screws through a wiring block?! Yes, exactly. Good job Dave. Takes patience and a bit of cynicism to find crap like that. Never assume the factory installed anything correctly. ;)

    WTF.. Is that someone trying to keep the plug in place by using screws.. If its really tight maybe the terminals will connect? WTF... The Alfa owners dont even do this kind of shi*.
