One of my good friends was driving through NC from FL to NJ and she got stopped by a trooper going 85 in a 65 and was told she can't just pay the fine, that she needs to appear. Can she hire a lawyer or does she need to make the trip? Also does NC negotiate on tickets in court??

Yes she can obviously hire a lawyer to work it out.

It depends on what county she got the ticket in but most will negotiate with you if you have a decent driving record. Some counties will even work it down to an improper equipment...but not always.

You ought to be able to plea it down. In NC there is a "prayer for judgement" in which the charge is dismissed. Under this, one must not get another summons for 3 years or else the dismissed charge returns and license is lost. Quite a gamble for drivers of Ferraris!

Thanks guys. I just sent her a note to get the follow-up question. She was driving a mini-van with 3 kids and she is cute. What kind of cops do you have down there writing tickets to young milfs?

Uhhh... one that enforces the law like he or she is supposed to?

What kind of "milf" puts kids at risk by speeding in a mini van?

She would agree with you... Week old Minivan got away from her i guess. As she puts it the van is much quiter than the old car she was in. She does have a clean driving record no tickets. Regarding the picture think dark haired cuban with blue eyes...

85 in a 65 is hardly at risk...IMO. Especially if she was keeping up with the flow of traffic.

She will be getting letters from NC attorneys soliciting her business. Tell her not to go with one of them. If you give me the county I can get you a proper referral.
