Ok, so had my share of the P Zeros and Potenza RE050 140 tread is great but I'm not racing about all day. Been looking at something with a bit more life and am thinking about trying something along the lines of a Hankook Ventus evok110 with a 280 treadwear or the Kumho Ecsta SPT with a 320. Now I autocross lower horsepower cars on much better rubber like R888s or R1Rs and would do the same with the 430, but for daily driving.... anyone uses the Hankooks or Kumhos ?
Do not do the Hankooks. I have them on my SRT8 right now, and they are the slipperiest tires I've ever had. My first gear is basically worthless.
Check out the Michelin pilot super sports, great tire or the continental extreme contact, also a good tire.
I like the write ups for the continental extreme contact DW. I put them on a newer Jaguar V8 and liked them. I would have put them on my 456gt but the size I needed never came off back order (waited six months). Check them out on tirerack.com and they have lots of tread.
I put Hankook Ventus evok110 on about 500 miles ago, no issues, more comfort, less noise and for me, no difference in handling characteristics...but I do not track the car. MB
Not looking to track the car with these tires...just for daily driving as the car sees quite a bit of the road during the week. Thus far have never put anything with more than 140 wear on it, so I'm eager and hesitant to see how it reacts with the harder compounds on twisty mountain roads.
I am adding new wheels this week and putting on the 19" Continental ExtremeContact DW XL. They come highly recommended, I will let you know my thoughts if I get a chance to drive the car soon.
I have had Hankooks on my 360 for 8 months now. They are just fine for a road tire. They are quiet and handle well. I had it on the track once and they are not as grippy or stiff walled as the Pzeros that came on the car. They were a third of the price of Pzeros on Tire Rack.
I have Hankooks on my G35 coupe and have been very happy with them, especially for the price. I bought a set for my 996tt to put on next and plan to use them on the 360 as well. Outside temperature and road condition (gravel, pavement type, ect) just seem to make a much bigger difference than tire in these ultra high performance tire types, and considering the savings, it's a huge value difference for something I don't really notice much on the street.
Question is for road use on stock OEM tires, not track use... What is the correct F and R tire pressures? Door decal says F = 30.5 psi, R = 29 psi. Only reasons I ask are 1) when I received the car from the dealership, tires were 3-4 psi higher in all corners, 2) at the lower recommended pressures, TPMS initially sends warning 'till tires warm up a bit. I realize the Pirelli corsa system isn't the most popular, but it's what I've got for now. TIA, DL
I guess it depends on what you're after. Pilot super sports seem to be the hot ticket for all around driving, 300 treadwear with good grip dry and excellent wet plus quiet ride. Supposedly they are a tad bit slower than the Direzza Z1 star spec and Hankook rs3 in dry handling and beat them in wet handling with quieter ride and higher treadwear. The Direzzas are better all around than the rs3, but they have a good amount of road noise, so I would not use them for a street only tire. All are supposed to be better than the Pzero's. My plan is to go with the PSS on my 355 as I want a good all around tire that I can also take on the track in the dry or wet. If I locate a 2nd set of rims, I'll get the Direzza Z1's for a set of track/autocross tires and just use the PSS on the street as I don't think my suspension would work very well with slicks and I don't want to have to change springs/arb's to go to the track. A friend has the Direzza Z1's on his m3 and they are good in the wet, excellent in the dry and show less than half wear after about 6k miles and 2 track days. However, they are a bit harsh and noisy on the road and he said he would have gotten the PSS if they were available at the time (they were on B/O when he got tires). Report back with what you decide.
F430GT posted his (well informed) views on tire pressure for scud/CS tires in a thread last month...you should search for it...IIRC he mentioned tire pressure for both street and track...I did ask him about P Zero Corsa system tires but don't recall what he said... Btw, are you done with that silverstone scud yet, I need it...
Thanks! I searched and found the info I looked for, but some was conflicting info. I saw recommended "hot" psi temps of 34F and 32R, but then I saw another with the reverse, 32F and 34R (again "hot" psi). Don't know which one to follow. Logic would say fronts should be firmer than rears, as that is what is stated on the door tag. But I think in general, lower front tire pressures were recommended to improve turn-in / cornering. Who knows... Ha! Not done with the silverstone Scuderia yet! I've only driven her 500mi so far. I need to at least get to 1Kmi! Cheers, DL
