Help with 95 355 OBD1 Reader + fuel filter

    Hi All,

    I searched and searched and found nothing on this....any help would be appreciated.

    1-Can I buy an OBD1 reader in order to read & clear the codes myself? Is eBay a good place? Any links or suggestions?

    2-The 95 2.7 system apparently uses a different fuel filter than the 96-99 cars. Can anyone confirm this?

    Regarding #1: OBD1 does not require a reader. You can do a pedal stomp test to get the codes. Here is the BMW procedure, but I bet it is the same or similar.

    1. turn key to position two

    2. press the gas pedal all the way in and all the way out 5 times, within 5 seconds of turning the key on

    3. the check engine light below your gauges should illuminate for 5 seconds, go out, then start blinking your code. there's about a 2.5 second gap between each digit. for example, if you have 4 flashes close together before a pause, then that digit is 4. the code reading is a total of four numbers. look at bentley's manual for a diagnostic of what your code means

    if it doesn't work, turn the key off, then try again. it took me a few tries to figure it out. seems like you have to push the gas at the right pace.

    This Ricambi page seems to indicate that they are different. On the bottom, Ricambi gives you 2 options for the filter (one for 96+ and the other for the 95)

    Based on what I can gather on the info on Ricambi:

    -the 152212 and 186922 fuel filters are the same and they belong on 2.7 cars with a DOUBLE fuel pump.

    -the 117792 fuel filter is for a 2.7 car with a single fuel pump

    The one that came off the car was Bosch 0450905601 which seems to be the 117792 filter.

    Did I just answer my own question?

    That's a neat little trick. I will try it......

    However, isn't a reader more simple and more accurate?

    Not sure if a reader costs 20$ or 200$ but if it's not too expensive, I would prefer using a reader.

    I know a Ferrari ds1/2/3 can read it. Nobody answered my question on an odbI reader. And go to my348.com for the way to read the codes off the dash. The site also has the code meanings

    And I believe it's the same gas filter as the 308,328,348
