What was the original radio that came in the 308 in 1983? I would like to get one to make my car period correct..... Thanks Kevin
Not 100% sure but I believe they were ALL dealier installed at least thru the 80's. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Window stickers indicate that a radio antennae was provided for radio but no radio installed. I have not seen a sticker that indicates a radio in my research on window stickers done recently.
The radios were dealer installed. Lots of people opted for Blaupunkt but another popular choice was Alpine. I've heard of a few other brands being used, but Blaupunkt and Alpine seemed to be chosen most often.
Blaupunkt in mine but as you state that was due to it's perception as a 'premium' brand, which also covered Alpine as well. Alpine had an ad campaign in the day, featuring exotics. No such thing as a 'Factory Radio' until the partnership with Pioneer in the Boxer BB512.
I'm glad you asked that. I was wondering the same thing about my 84. Everything I had ever seen was a Blaupunkt cassette and I found some on ebay (really cheap). Yes, the sound like crap and cassettes??? Seriously. But my plan was to have a harness wired in that I can tuck under the dash to hook an ipod up to it. As many decibels as my engine puts out, I doubt I will listen to any other music besides the sweet symphony going on behind my head anyway. Just good to have an option.
That is why I am seriously looking at turning that space into a glove box using the blanking plate as the door and putting a spring loaded piano hinge on it.
You get my goood idea for the day award. I am frustrated with the fact that there is no place to put anything in a place where it won't slide off to the floor in a quick turn. Good Show Mark I can't hear the radio anyway, and who cares? My next thing to do. Klatu
You'd be surprised how good cassettes actually were. IMHO way way better than mp3 crud. If you want quality sound, ditch the iPod with its dreadful muddy dynamics and play a decent chrome tape in a good player.
This original blanking plate is for sale on eBay. Crazy high price but a good reference if someone is interested in making one. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
My '83 GTS has a Blaupunkt, but a different model than pictured. It also has a wireless remote for the radio/cassette. It was installed by the dealer when the car was new. I don't believe any MY83 cars had factory installed radios.
Nah. Just trim the CD down to fit the cassette slot. As to radio, my '83 GTB had (now in drawer) Alpine 7347 AM/FM cassette player with external amp.
I probably would have agreed a few years ago (the pops and clicks from the vinyl records or a touch of haziness on the cassette added character). I grew up in the vinyl lp then cassette era as well. But I think one musician said it best when there was all that flap about pirating or re-recording "as an artist, we didn't intend for you to hear anything but pure music" (paraphrasing). I think the older I get, the more I can appreciate that (clarity). To each his own preference, though. Cheers!
That IS a great idea! My "map pocket" on the seatback is so tight, you can't squeeze any papers into it like your registration or insurance and ever hope to get it out. That would be a lot more convenient for those times the cop magnet does its thing. Please post a pic when/ if you do it.
