Hi all - was wondering if anyone can be so kind to give me a couple of pointers (or better yet, a set of instructions) on how to remove my 348's cats and subsequently installing test pipes. My thread search yielded a great thread on the same issue on a 355, but don't want to be making a big mistake by assuming that the process will be identical on a 348.

Also - if you think i am kidding myself by attempting this myself, do let me know.

Yet another noob question - apart from sound, does the test pipe itself improve power?

    Thanks in advance!

Pretty simple job. If the nuts are a bit rusty you may wanna soak the with some WD40 or equivalent penetrating lubricant first. Here is how I took mine off. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=259070&page=2 it's towards the bottom of the page.

As for power, you may get a few extra ponies back, but nothing big.

Test pipes will help make the engine feel more peppy and zippy. More power? Maybe a tiny bit. Assuming you don't have a lift. Jack the car up as high as possible and place it on stands. Remove both rear wheels. Remove the airfilter box. Spray liquid wrench on the exhaust bolts and nuts infront of and behind the cats and on the oxygen sensor mounting ports and on the thermocouple probe nuts. You can't use too much liquid wrench, really soak it everywhere. Let the liquid wrench sit for as long as possible, maybe over night. You'll also need some antiseize for the oxygen sensors during reinstall. Disconnet both oxygen sensor plugs from under the airfilter box, just squeeze the metal clip and gently pull. After the nuts and bolts have soaked, gently loosen the thermocouple nuts and carefully pull out the probe straigt out from the cat, the probes are long and may need gentle twisting. Then remove all 8 nut and bolt sets from the cats, remember the direction and position. Everything should be loose, swing the muffler back towards the bumper cover and the cats should drop out. Make sure the O2 sensor wires don't get caught up on anything. You don't have to remove the bumper cover for this job, unless you want. Carefully remove the O2 sensors and prepare to install them in the test pipes. Install the O2 sensors into the pipes before attempting to install them on the car. Clean all the nuts and bolts. Put antisieze all threads, including O2 sensors, thermocouple nuts, and all nuts and bolts. Keep this part clean. Try not to get any antisieze on the probe of the O2 sensor or thermocouples. Install in reverse order. Take your time. Access the nuts and bolts both from the rear wheel wells and from underneath. This is a fairly easy job. You may need new donut gaskets, about $15 each. Get some before you start. Have fun. Post if there are problems.
