Just one more newspaper scrap... .... and link to the newspaper "El Mundo Deportivo". http://hemeroteca-paginas.mundodeportivo.com/EMD02/HEM/1955/05/01/MD19550501-009.pdf They said the Ferrari, with Pirelli tyres, was 750 Monza type and it was still pending for official homologation, so the car was allowed to enter in the over 2600cc class. Daetwyler won with an advantage of 2 laps. The second Ferrari, driven by J. F. Nogueira Pinto, was crashed in practice and DNS. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, sorry, it was my fault at transcription. The newspaper first said J. F. Nogueira, and later they refered him only as "Nogueira Pinto". It can't be corrected in the entry list post.
I want to ask a question to the experts regarding 512 S # 1026 We all have seen this car destroyed in the Steve McQueen's film Le Mans my question is : did it actually happened during the 1970 race or It was a scene made exclusively for the movie ? also how come this totaled car # 1026 appears alive and kicking in Nick Mason collection currently ? Thanks in advance
1026 was damaged by fire during the filming of the movie. Wreck sold to wrecking yard. See also ad in "Road & Track" magazine January 1971. Then changed hands 6 times. 1979 fully rebuilt by Church Green Engineering, Victor Norman's Rosso Racing and Bob Houghton in the UK, for Nick Mason. Marcel Massini
No, not such a big crash in the trees... The 512 S Ferraris were involved in two crashes during the very wet 1970 race : . Four of them crashed together at the S du Tertre-Rouge, due to an optimistic drive of Reggazzoni on a rainy and slippery track. . The Ickx's 512 S heavily crashed during the night killing a marshall.
Hi I know that the original engine is owned (in a 512S car too) from Mr.Fazza's. All the best, Alessandro
I believe the shot where the 512 flies off was made using a mockup on a 'lowly' T70 chassis, not actually 1026. Best, Dave PS Don't let Napolis see what I said about the Lola or I'm doomed.
In 1970 Ferrari 512 S chassis #1026 was raced five times by Scuderia Ferrari (at Daytona, Sebring, Monza, Spa and Le Mans). In these 5 races the car was fitted with four (4) different 512 S engines (internal engine block numbers #17, 21, 22 and 26). Which leaves the question which one is considered to be the original engine. Marcel Massini

Sheesh, I just let out a little scream when I scrolled to that shot! Hope the occupants, car and (most of) the Vignale bodywork made it.
When I see this photo I truly assume that the race was over for them seconds after that shot was taken. Ciao! Walter
I have some of these but not this one. The difference in the dates,1954 and 1955, are confusing. Please fill us in. thanks just one man's opinion tongascrew
