LED's in 355 tail lights

We are working on some LED's that will be bright enough for the taillights, and also be able to use for signalling (so you don't get the blub out error and the fast signalling). The idea is to sell the via Ricambi if Daniel will let us.

Just finishing some testing at the moment.

But if you buy the conventional LED bulb sold at farm supply stores, they are way too dim to be any good.

 

I tried a prototype today of what cars now use. A computer controlled led which takes into account the load resistor. I will take some comparative pics once I get a few more bulbs. But looks very promising.

 

I have LED bulbs for my reverse lights and they are perfect and don't get the lense hot in my 355.

 

+1 ........ I use side indicator bulbs in the reverse postion as they are dimmer and lower heat, but the LEDs sound like they would be even cooler!!! do the LEDs light up enough to see when in reverse?

 

I honestly do not understamd why people wpould do something like this. i could understa d hid fronts to see more, but why change a period car to something that it is not. Same goes for putting non period rims on them. Just buy a modern car then imo, have never seen anybody ask about something like this for an f40 or f50. just my opinion, but leave the cars as they are if the changes do not improve performance or safety

 

A non load-dependent blinker module would be much better than load resistors.

LED's do improve safety as they come on quicker.

LED's also take less load on the car wiring. They do not generate heat like regular bulbs. Especially good on older cars where heat and electrica draw can be an issue.

Older cars were never meant to have Xenons, which take a lot of power. Way more than the original headlights. They can run into issues because of it. By changing over to low voltage LEDs you lower the overall draw on the car, making the car easier to handle the load of the xenons.

But I agree with the comment about the rims. I am a fan of keeping things period on my vintage cars. But safety comes first.

 

Do you own a Ferrari that has the same lense configuration as my 355?

The design is inferior and places the reverse bulbs like 1/100th of an inch away from the housing--the lenses melt outward and are distorted with a large bubble. Do a search; there are quite a few photos on here.

The LED bulbs are physically smaller and give off a fraction of the heat of regular bulbs.

Again...have you experienced this...?
