I have a different model that I keep in the trunk of one of my cars. When I plug it in it tells me why the "check engine" light is on and it erases the light. At least on mine it does not really fix the problem. It just shuts off the light and tells me where the problem is.

Mine is the ceap version about $70.

Buy a cheap one and use Google to investigate the code(s).

While I agree, that this scanner is more expensive than others ($140 on Amazon with hard case) it does offer the advantage of giving you a readout of what the code means as well a the most common fixes. I am thinking that having this information at your fingertips, rather than having to go to the PC and googling for results would have some significant value.

Anybody out there that has used it or is familiar with it??

I had one of this brand for five years before it broke. Not bad. Would have replaced it with another of the same brand, but went to Harbor Freight tool boutique instead for cheaper. I'm not a believer in expensive electronic gadgets, as they all break or become obsolete anyway.

I have the smaller version, I think paid $130 for it, Bought it at Autozone. It doesn't have all the diagnostic stuff, it just reads & clears the codes, plus shows the operating info while the engine is running. I've used it on my Expedition, Z4, and Civic to pull and clear codes. Good little gadget to have in the tool box.
