A 22-year-old engineering graduate, Dhiaa Al-Essa, became the first person in Saudi Arabia to take delivery of the new 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. To bypass the cars 18-month waiting list, the youth reportedly paid an additional $71,000 on top of the cars $387,000 base price. Obviously, Al-Essa is not tight on cash, which may have a lot to do with the £1.5-billion estimated worth of his family. The Lamborghini is just one of many exotic supercars that Al-Essa owns, which looks like a laundry list of the latest and greatest and includes a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, Koenigsegg Agera, Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe, Rolls-Royce Phantom sedan, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, Ferrari F430, Ferrari 599 GTO, Ferrari 458 Italia, Ferrari California, Porsche 997 GT3 RS, Porsche 997 Turbo Spyder, Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG, Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG, BMW M5, BMW X6M, BMW X5M, Audi R8, and Maybach 62. His collection has an estimated value of $12 million. Which car does Al-Essa like the most? According to an article posted on Metro.co.uk in 2010 before he acquired at least the Koenigsegg and the Aventador, his favorite ride was the Mercedes SLR McLaren because of the way it looks and drives and its reliability. http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/blog/post/2011/11/28/22-year-old-grabs-first-aventador-for-extra-71000.aspx
This is news? I bet there are Aventadors out there that sold for way more than $71k over sticker, and if there aren't there will be very soon.
Yeah. Get rid of the Mercs, the BMWs, the Rollers and the Cali. Replace with vintage stuff, the four Ferrari Hypers, and a Deusenberg.
Yes, but I assume you would do it out of a genuine love for the car. The suspicion will always be that he's doing it merely because he can. Of course, he may be the biggest petrol head on the planet, but there's every chance that this is just an exercise in greed. Though good luck to him either way.
May God assist him....! I can only hope that a 22-year-old kid never drives cars like those on any German Autobahn! Ciao! Walter
The article failed to mention that his Billionaire dad pays for the cars so a 22 year old didn't grab anything but his Dad's wallet. Anyone can make a $12million collection buying brand new supercars, it's not hard walking into a car dealer and handing over cash. At least he sounds sensible
All that cash and no Miura, XJ220, McLaren F1 LM, F40, EB110, Diablo 6.0SE, BMW M1, 959, GT1? I can go on and on! Fail.
Who cares if he's not collecting classics? That just leaves more for the rest of the collectors who do.
Wait a minute, in S.A. the "thumbs up" gesture is offensive! Next stop, will it be Belgravia, Mayfair or Knightsbridge? But of course! All three! http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/27/world/europe/27london.html [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbB1RwpuTRY[/ame]
There will be suspicion of nothing. He is an engineering student, and they love mechanical contraptions of all sorts, for crying out loud.
Can we stop using oil from the middle east already? i'd rather this be some amish student from Pennsylvania shortly after switching over to natural gas .. ok so i'm jealous and apparently a racist
Dear Lamborghinisti, Wow....sure is alot of hate in this thread. So, he doesn't have a F50 and a Testa Rossa. He's 22. He's just buying what would be considered cars of his generation. A few times at the clubs some guys would say "that's an old Lamborghini" ...why don't you get a Murci? Hahha.....umm....yeah. He has a passion for cars and a family wealth to support his hobby. If his passion stays with him when he grows up, he'll be the one doing the "the cost no object" restorations of famous cars of the past. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
Where? Maybe a bit of jest but I don't see any hate. To be honest, I love that fact that he's buying cars like this along with anyone else who contributes to the continued success of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. That goes for the all other exotic car manufacturers as well.
Not that he cares what I think but... There are only two types of car collections I respect. A) Those who spent their own hard earned money and bought whatever the heck they want. This kid is spending Daddys money so he doesnt fit into this category. B) Those who have a collection of true classic automobilies showing varied and refined taste and a love and appreciation for the history of the cars. This kid is only buying the 'latest and greatest' so he doesnt fit this category either. Im not going to criticize him as a person since I dont know him...but I have no respect for his car collection.
